There were plenty of impressive performances from many of the region’s premier girls basketball talent that made their way to the Grand Strand and a few of those happen to hail from the Palmetto State’s capital region. Here are a few names from in and around the Columbia area that are notable players to remember as their careers continue to blossom.
Lindsay Garner Lindsay Garner 6'2" | C Lexington | 2023 State SC – Lexington High School – 2023 – As much top tier talent that there is in Richland County, Lexington is also no exception. If one’s first time watching Garner may have occurred while witnessing the Expo on Baller TV, one may come away impressed with what it was they saw. Garner did not give up on tough plays and showed a tenacity and hustle that many a coach looks for. She not only can get her own rebound, she is not afraid to draw contact and get to the free throw line. Garner makes the high-percentage shots and fills up the rebounds portion of a stat sheet.
Tanaja Kennedy Tanaja Kennedy 5'2" | PG Keenan | 2023 State SC – Cardinal Newman High School – 2023 – Last year’s SCISA state championship game where her 20 points against Northwood Academy is in the minds of many a basketball fan throughout the Palmetto State. It also has many wondering if this will be a springboard for her next hoops act. Kennedy impressed at the Expo with her speed in getting up and down the court as well as with her scoring prowess. Her vast array of talents include not only scoring and speed, but ball distribution and defense. If this is where she is right now and only entering her sophomore year … look out rest of South Carolina.
Deasia Feaster Deasia Feaster 6'0" | SF Fairfield Central | 2022 State SC – Fairfield Central High School (Winnsboro) – 2022 – Feaster is absolutely a scorer that can knock down shots from anyplace on the floor. Under the basket for a layup? She will score. Midrange jump shot? She will score. Behind the arc? She will score. Along with averaging 10 points per game for a Griffins team (which she was one of three captains) that finished 13-8 last season, her rebounding also helped Fairfield Central’s cause as she brought down five boards per game.
Alexis Sexton Alexis Sexton 5'9" | CG Lexington | 2022 State SC – Lexington High School – 2022 – Speaking of Lexington standouts. Coming off a season where she averaged 17 points per game, it is expected her profile will rise even more as a junior. Sexton knows how to slash her way through defenders and find her way to the basket. In addition, she will also shoot 3-point shots and make tough shots against opposing defenses.
