A great defender can make you give the ball up and disrupt your offense and keep your team either from getting the ball inside to the dominant post or just keeping the guards and forwards away from the rim. Either way it goes, I believe the great defender is the key to it all in the game as a whole, whoever has defensive stoppers and good offensive skills on the other side will always have a better chance to win the game. These kids are my defensive stoppers, some were on my Block Shots article, but hey, they deserve it anyway if it is repetition. Hope you enjoy the evaluations on these girls.
2022, 5’5, PG, Corona Centennial HS, Londynn Jones Londynn Jones 5'5" | PG Santiago | 2022 State #9 Nation CA – is a dynamic point guard with the uncanny ability to finish in the paint amongst the trees. She shoots the ball well out to the arc, midrange is good and her drive is immaculate to the rim thru contact. She is a leader in all aspects of the game, very vocal and very prideful in the game, almost to the point that she is determined to will herself to make her team win. She defends well, runs the break and makes the right passes at times, but she is a shooting guard in a point guards body. Major upside on this player as well.
2022, 5’4, PG, Providence HS, Jyah LoVett Jyah LoVett 5'7" | CG Fort Wayne Snider | 2022 State IN – is a strong, crafty, quick point guard that demands you guard her, cause she is going to score on you. She will lull you with her change of direction, then her change of speed and then she is laying the ball up, before you can stop her. She is a coaches dream, runs the offense to her coaches liking and can get a bucket at will, no matter who is guarding her.
2022, 5’7, PG, Westlake HS, London Gamble London Gamble 5'7" | PG Westlake Village HS | 2022 State CA – I first saw Gamble over the summer at a WCE event. She has all the makings of being an elite scoring guard. She can also slide over and play some small forward. She moves well off the ball and is solid in transition. On ball, she can go coast to coast and finish a play. Good three-point shooter. She has an array of offensive moves. Defensively, strong on ball and picks up full court.
2022, 5’5, CG, Rodriguez HS, Camryn Washington Camryn Washington 5'5" | CG Rodriguez HS | 2022 State CA – Quick and shifty point guard with a nice game on her, she has improved quite a bit in her consistency on the floor in every aspect. She could always knock down shots, but she has become much more consistent at her shot and it is becoming much more easy for her to create opportunities for herself. This is gonna improve her stat line this year, she will be averaging about 20ppg by the time the season starts. We love her defensive tenacity, she is a ball hawk on the defensive side of the ball, straight thief.
2022, 6’1, SF, Camarillo HS, Gabriela Jaquez Gabriela Jaquez 6'0" | SF Camarillo HS | 2022 State CA – Gaby did what she does best and that is score the ball with ease, she attacked the basket and used her old woman’s game by using the backboard for easy buckets. She was a mismatch for all of the guards who tried to hold her in the paint, she was a easy seal and finish over her opponents. She was aggressive on both sides of the ball and she dominated as one of the better players in the event. She is so long and athletic that it is unfair for most of the girls playing against her on the floor.
