Caroline Cady Caroline Cady 6'1" | PF Carmel Christian | 2022 NC | SF | Carmel Christian
Cady is a player who seems to always be in the right spot at the right time when playing defense. She uses her length to jump into passing lanes, and she makes sure to get back on defense to prevent fast breaks from occurring. Additionally, she is known for contributing blocks and rebounds throughout her playing time. Her offensive skill set has greatly improved over this summer with her ability to use various post moves to score against any opponent standing in her way. She is also a threat beyond the arc finding opportunities to show off her three point shooting ability. She has great vision of the court finding her open teammates or knowing exactly how to contribute for her team like setting screens or jumping into defensive gaps.
Monique Cepeda | SF | Arborbrook Christian Academy
Cepeda continues to impress me every time I get to see her play. She is one of the most consistent players I have seen at her age. Her stroke from behind the three point line seems to always be on target, and she can certainly handle the ball well when driving close to the basket. Additionally, she hustles more than most of the players who share the court with her always jumping into passing lanes, talking to her teammates, and diving on the floor for loose balls. Her vision of the court is superb as well as she knows how to find her open teammates or move herself to get the perfect pass into someone else. Cepeda also helps her teammates by constantly moving around the court even when she doesn’t have the ball looking for passes from them or to help get them out of trouble.
Halle Chaffin Halle Chaffin 5'11" | SF West Charlotte | 2022 NC | SF | West Charlotte
Each time I saw Chaffin play this summer, she made sure her name was one that you remembered. She knew how to move her body and position herself to get an entry pass and score. She can score from many areas of the court and is dominant anywhere near the paint. Her aggressiveness with the ball ensured that no one else would be taking the ball from her and even allowed her to make many trips to the free throw line. This strength translates well to the defensive side of the ball as she can certainly contribute blocks, steals, and rebounds consistently for her team.
IoAnna Giannopoulou IoAnna Giannopoulou 6'1" | SF Myers Park | 2022 NC | SF | Myers Park
Giannopoulou’s height and stature allow her to play all over the court. She does an excellent job of setting up outside the three point line and making some wise decisions about how to score whether she is showing off her shot or driving with the ball. She has great vision of the court, too, to find her open teammates and get them involved. She does not give up on a play either constantly moving and looking for second chance opportunities off of rebounds. Her ability to run the floor well helps with scoring in transition and preventing opponents from scoring fast break points. She knows how to protect the ball after every rebound, too, making it difficult for opponents who try to grab the possession again.
Trinity Moreland Trinity Moreland 6'2" | C Julian Chambers | 2022 NC | C | Zebulon B. Vance
To state it frankly, Moreland is a beast underneath the basket. She bullies her way against any opponent making sure she can get in the position she wants. She doesn’t allow players to get by her with the ball, and she finds many ways to create blocks and steals with her tall frame. She does not show any fear when going up against contact, and she takes advantage of old fashioned three point plays. Her quickness allows her to run the floor well, and she can close out on shooters causing blocks that seem to come out of nowhere. I certainly think she will continue to contribute significantly for the reigning state champions.
Nora Schroeder Nora Schroeder 5'11" | SF Charlotte Christian | 2022 NC | SF | Charlotte Christian
Schroeder is a dynamic player who could play many positions on the court. She can shoot from behind the arc and drive the ball inside. She can also score inside, especially off of second chance opportunities when grabbing offensive rebounds. On defense, she is known as a block maker constantly tracking the ball and causing problems when opponents are trying to put up shots. She is capable of grabbing these blocks and pushing them up the other end of the court for some fast break points.
Abriel Thrash | SF | Arborbrook Christian Academy
Thrash is another incredibly consistent player. She can make moves against the toughest defenders underneath the basket, or she can step outside and show off her shooting ability. She can handle the ball well, too, making her another player on the list that can play many positions on the court. She blows by opponents when pushing the ball up the court, and she does an excellent job keeping her eyes up finding her open teammates. On defense, her length and speed come in handy as she can certainly jump into passing lanes causing deflections and steals. She is dominant grabbing rebounds on both ends of the court, too.
Ruby Williams Ruby Williams 6'0" | SF Cuthbertson | 2022 State NC | SF | Cuthbertson
Williams has the height of a forward and the ball handling skills of a point guard making her a threat all over the court. She can weave in and out of opponents while pushing the ball up the court, and she can make moves inside to score close to the basket no matter what kind of contact is pushing up against her. She has a nice stroke from beyond the arc and a nice floater that she puts up making it very hard to guard her. When she isn’t handling the ball, she is moving to find the open areas of the court in order for her to contribute for her team. On defense, she is consistently jumping into passing lanes causing deflections and steals.
