Covid has caused recruiting difficulties for both college coaches and high school players trying to find a school. No campus visits and no in person recruiting really has put a damper on things. High school coaches have also felt the pinch trying to secure the future of their programs. Luckily the DMV has been able to provide an outlet for players to be seen with the Best of the Best Showcase. Around 60 of the top middle school players showcased their talents for a couple dozen coaches and scouts on hand. These are some of the top players and what we have learned about the future of the DMV.
Top Players:
Abigail Ward Abigail Ward 6'2" | C Howard | 2025 State MD – 5’6″ Combo Guard – 2025
Theresa runs the floor and finishes very well. She has a nice outside shot and can shoot it off the dribble. She has a quick first step and changes directions on a dime to help her separate from defenders.
Zhen Craft Zhen Craft 6'2" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2025 State MD – 6’1″ – Wing – 2025
Zhen’s skill level popped out immediately as she showed a high level of ability on both ends. She was able to guard every position and proved to be an exceptional shot blocker. She has great hands and is able to finish at the rim. She is high school ready now and a possible program changer at each of the next levels.
Caliyah DeVillasee Caliyah DeVillasee 5'7" | PG Our Lady Of Good Counsel | 2025 State MD – 5’5″ – Point Guard – 2025
Caliyah has a good feel for the game and has great body control in transition that she uses well to finish after contact. She doesn’t seem to get bothered by pressure and has a good set shot that keeps the defense honest.
Lilah Turnbull – 5’3″ – Point Guard – 2025
Lilah was one of the best shooters in the building. Despite her size she was able to mix it up in the lane and finish in traffic. She makes good decisions in transition and is always a threat to pull up if the numbers aren’t there.
Jordyn Steindl – 5’6″ – Guard – 2025
Jordyn has deceptive speed and a good handle. She keeps her head up to see teammates and can knock down shots from deep. She has a high release and has accuracy even with a hand in her face contesting her shot.
Princess Moody Princess Moody 5'8" | CG Bishop McNamara | 2025 State MD – 5’7″ – Combo Guard – 2025
I was very impressed with Princess during the entire event. She has very good floor vision and is great in transition. Her footwork is really good as she mixes up her fakes and pivots. She has a soft floater with a good touch.
Lebrea Carter – 5’11″ – Forward – 2025
Lebrea has good height and a high school ready body. She has a good looking shot can be a solid perimeter player. She’s a good finisher down low and can attack well from the wing.
Underclassmen (Bonus)
There were several younger players that stood out during the day:
Kirsten Holt – 6’2″ – Center – 2026
Kirsten’s has impressive size especially for a seventh grader. Listed at 6’2″ her body is solid and she finishes well by the basket.
Cai Roberson – 5’9″ – Wing – 2026
Cai greatest asset is genetics. She is long with an exceptional wingspan that she uses to block shots. She has a nice touch on her shot and is good at attacking the basket and finishing. Speaking on genetics she has a younger 5’8″ sister (Nevaeh) that is just as talented and a 6’9″ brother (Jerrell) that is already a high school star. Keep an eye on this pair going forward.
