Covid has caused recruiting difficulties for both college coaches and high school players trying to find a school. No campus visits and no in person recruiting really has put a damper on things. High school coaches have also felt the pinch trying to secure the future of their programs. Luckily the DMV has been able to provide an outlet for players to be seen as Bruno Corras hosted the Elevate Elite Middle School Combine. This was the second of three high profile events for a group that has had their basketball totally shut down. Around 80 of the top middle school players showcased their talents for a couple dozen coaches and scouts on hand at the Chantilly Sports Complex (Formally Hoop Magic). These are some of the top players and what we have learned about the future of the DMV.
Emma NuQuay – 5’9″ – Guard – 2025
Emma was the best player in the building. We have been watching her play above her grade level for several years so, seeing her with her grade level she seems more polished than the other players on the court. She was held out of the all star game at the end but she did enough during the session to impress every high school coach on hand.
Sierra Evans – 6’1″ – Wing – 2025*
Sierra is long and athletic. She has good timing as a shot blocker and runs the floor like a guard. In the drills she was able to get up the floor and finish with either hand. She stood out before play even began because of her height, once the action started it was her athletcsm and skill that got the coaches attention.
Amirah Anderson – 5’9″ – Wing – 2025
Amirah has natural assets as a 5’9″ wing that can knock down the three and can finish she has the foundation in place to contribute immediately in high school. She has the skillset to be effective in both the post and perimeter.
Daniya Brown – 5’5″ – Guard – 2025
Daniaya was one of the better shooter in the gym. She has good range and a nice touch.
Caliyah DeVillasee – 5’6″ – Guard – 2025
Caliyah’s skill was impressive and she definitely is a target for every high school in the area. Some times she appears to be not going 100% but even when coasting she is amongst the best players on the floor. She has s very quick first step and combined with her exceptional handle she is close to impossible to keep in front of you. She gets to the basket at will and can make so difficult contested shots.
Kaliyah Murphy – 5’10 – Post – 2025
Kaliyah has one of the most physical physiques that I’ve ever seen from a middle school player. She has great hands and catches passes that should be turnovers and can finish the play in a single motion. She has good footwork and uses her angles well.
Aleah Rodriguez – 5’8″ – Wing – 2025
Aleah has gotten better each time we see her. She has a knack of getting to the basket quickly in only a couple of dribbles even when starting well beyond the three point lane. She has a good frame and is tough on defense.
Aliza Murray – 5’2″ – Guard – 2026
If I were handing out MVP awards Aliza would have been my top pick. She was able to score off the bounce getting to the basket or with a very accurate pull up jumper from the mid range. She is very skilled and performed well against the eigth graders.
Jayel West 5’6″ – Guard – 2026
Jayel showed a nice shot in the drills. She uses her body well to sheild off the defender and has advanced finishes with either the right or left hand.
Jaila Lilly – 6’1″ – Forward – 2026
Jayla was the most physical player in the 7th grade group. There wasn’t anyone who could stop her from finishing once she got position. Players bounced off of her as she grabbed rebounds as if she was a grown woman playing amongst kids.
Gabriella Moore – 5’2″ – Guard – 2026
Gabriella is attacks well off the pump fake. She has a good quick release which makes the fake even more effective.
Malia Siriwardene – 5’3″ – Guard – 2026
Malia’s shothing was automatic from around thirteen feet in. Maybe the second best player on the floor in the class and definitely the most underated as she wasn’t invited to stay and compete against the uperclassmen. She showed a nice touch and played smart.
Addison Marcus – 5’8″ – Forward – 2026
Addison has a good body and size, she actually looks like she could be in high school now. She has the potential and time to migrate to the wing which will make her more valuable as she gets closer to college recruiting.
Amanda Bates – 5’6″ Guard – 2026
Amanda is a playmaker. She stays active and covers a lot of ground on each play. Defensively she’s always involve whether it’s on the ball or in help.
