Here are some of the 2023 athletes from the NC Watchlist in the Greensboro, High Point, and Winston Salem areas.
Drew Alexander Drew Alexander 5'10" | CG Winston Salem Christian | 2023 NC | Quality Education Academy | CG
Alexander is someone whose talent allows her to play all over the court. She can push the ball up the court, and she does an excellent job scoring jump shots in transition. She can certainly shoot from behind the arc as well, especially with her ability to create separation between her and her opponent. She does not shy away from posting up underneath either using various post moves to make her way to the basket in order to score. On defense, her agility allows her to keep opponents right where she wants them and does not allow them to blow by her. She keeps her head on a swivel, too, always knowing where she needs to be in order to make a deflection or steal.
Raniyah Hocutt Raniyah Hocutt 6'3" | C R.J. Reynolds | 2023 NC | Quality Education Academy | C
Hocutt transferred to Quality Education Academy this year, and she is certain to make immediate impacts. Her height and length come in handy when she is posting up against anyone that has to try to stop her. She does an excellent job muscling her way to the basket in order to score or grab a rebound. Her footwork is good when playing the post, and she shows that her IQ is continuing to grow as she progresses through her high school career. There’s a reason she already holds several offers from colleges hoping she continues her basketball career with them.
Jadyn Newsome Jadyn Newsome 5'10" | SF Northern Guilford | 2023 NC | Northern Guilford | SF
Newsome has been impressive with her IQ and skillset since her middle school days. She does an excellent job choosing from her many post moves to score underneath, and she knows how to position herself on offense and defense to make the most impact. She truly has the fundamentals down, and she is expanding her shooting range more and more. Newsome seems to already show leadership capabilities and has ice in her veins even in close game situations where the pressure may get to these young athletes.
Madison Young Madison Young 5'10" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2023 State NC | Northwest Guilford | CG
Young spent most of her summer playing with seniors in high school, and the only way you would know she’s younger is by looking at the roster. The lefty has the ability to dribble by anyone who is trying to guard her, and her shot is consistent no matter who her competition is. Her IQ is already very high, and she knows how to see the court well in order to make the best plays for her teams. Her size allows her the ability to score from anywhere on the court, and she knows how to push through contact when trying to score near the basket. She can certainly jump into passing lanes and does a good job playing proactive defense.
Faith Robertson Faith Robertson 5'4" | CG McMichael | 2023 State NC | McMichael | CG
Robertson probably could have started at point guard for a high school team even when she was still in middle school. Her ball handling is top notch, and she knows how to always see the entire floor. She is constantly looking to push the ball up the court and get it to a teammate, or she is moving her body in order to make the best entry pass into her post player teammates. She is certainly not just a ball handler, though, as she can score from many areas of the court whether she is showing off her shot from downtown or she is driving to the basket. She is also consistent when it comes to grabbing steals creating her own offensive possessions.
A’Shauna Robinson A’Shauna Robinson 5'8" | SF Greensboro Day | 2023 NC | Greensboro Day | SF
Robinson has the height and footwork of a forward and the ball handling of a guard making her a threat from all areas of the court. She can elevate herself above competition when showing off a jump shot, or she can fight through contact when driving to the basket. She tracks the ball whether she is jumping into passing lanes or following a shot including her own. Don’t be surprised to see Robinson make acrobatic moves in order to score showing that there seems to be very little a defense can do to stop her.
Brecken Snotherly Brecken Snotherly 5'11" | SG Eastern Randolph | 2023 State NC | Eastern Randolph | SG
Snotherly already has a list of accolades behind her name after her freshman season where she averaged nearly 20 points a game. She handles the ball well, and she knows how to get defenders off of her in order for her to show off her shot. She is dangerous from any area on the court and is always ready to shoot. She does an excellent job blowing by her opponents, too, to drive to the basket. She follows the ball well going after rebounds, and her length is helpful when jumping into passing lanes to grab steals.
