Games featured intense play throughout with athletes getting the opportunity to showcase themselves in front of college scouts while preparing for the start of the upcoming 2020-21 basketball season.
With so many changes hitting due to the novel coronavirus, including many summer camps and tournaments being scrapped, the Prep Girls Hoops Iowa Top 250 Expo provided those players with a great chance.
We will be offering up a recap from each game of the expo.
Finley Fitzgerald Finley Fitzgerald 5'7" | SG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2023 State IA , Dallas Center-Grimes (2023)
As a freshman for Woodward-Granger last season, Finley Fitzgerald Finley Fitzgerald 5'7" | SG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2023 State IA stepped into a new role and shined. She finished with 197 points, 62 rebounds, 41 steals and 22 assists, sinking 18 three-pointers.
Now, the Class of 2023 prospect joins a talented unit at Dallas Center-Grimes. Fitzgerald is a steady hand at the point guard position with good size and the ability to sink the 3-ball. She has a picture-perfect shooting stroke and is very dangerous on the wing.
Sydney Kenkel, Grinnell (2022)
If her performance at the Expo was any indication, big things are in store for Sydney Kenkel this winter. She appeared in 12 games last year for Grinnell.
At 5-foot-11, the Class of 2022 prospect has great size and can post up. She also has the ability to step behind the 3-point line and bury that shot while displaying quick hands a good skills on defense.
Kyla Wright, Cedar Rapids Xavier (2024)
There will be some minutes needing filled at Cedar Rapids Xavier this winter, and one would expect Kyla Wright to get her share of them. Wright is a Class of 2024 newcomer and will help replace six seniors.
Wright has a nice first step and is able to take her defender off the dribble with ease. She also is strong enough to finish at the rim.
Jenna Hopp Jenna Hopp 5'11" | SG Glenwood | 2023 State IA , Glenwood (2023)
There was no freshman jitters for Jenna Hopp Jenna Hopp 5'11" | SG Glenwood | 2023 State IA last season, as the Glenwood Class of 2023 prospect recorded 349 points with 100 rebounds, 55 steals, 52 assists and 44 made 3-pointers.
Hopp floats easily around the court to find an open spot that allows her to exploit the defense. She is also a very solid defender and strong finisher at the basket.
