- Mia Nicastro Mia Nicastro 6'1" | SG St. Charles West | 2022 State MO had a big first game for St. Charles West. The 6’0 2022 Wing was hot from the behind the arc, especially in the first half where the Warriors ran out to a big lead. Mia was 5/9 from the 3-point line and finished with 22 points. She is a versatile player who fills many roles for St. Charles West and is depended on to lead the team, which draws major attention from the defense. In the second half St. Charles High played a zone and hedged towards Mia the whole half. The game got a little tight but the Warriors held on a for a win versus their rival with Mia helping to handle pressure and calm the team in the 4th quarter.
- Brooke Highmark Brooke Highmark 5'8" | PG Westminster | 2022 State MO Brooke is off to a hot start for the Westminster Wildcats in their first two games. She has averaged 20 points per game while hitting 6/13 from behind the arc and 4/5 from the free throw line. Brooke is excellent with the ball in her hand and can create space and driving lanes with her quick moves. This led to her getting into the lane frequently where she has 9 field goals in two games to add to her excellent 3-point shooting.
- Kate Restovich is a 5’7 2023 Guard from Visitation. Kate is the left handed player of the two sisters and has been waiting her chance to get back on the court from a back injury. Kate sat out most all of the AAU season and the first two games of the school season. But, she had a nice 20 point game in a win over Cor Jesu to kick start her season. She is best right now off the bounce where she does an excellent job of moving her defender one way and using a quick change of direction and speed to get around her defender. Kate is a capable outside shooter and hit 2/5 from behind the arc in this game.
- Kelsey Blakemore Kelsey Blakemore 5'9" | CG Whitfield | 2021 State MO is a 5’9 2021 Guard from Whitfield. Kelsey had a nice opening week by averaging 16.3 points per game over their 2-1 start. She has a very strong body that allows her to get to the rim against very good defenders by using her strength to “bully” her way in there. Once she gets in the lane Kelsey can finish through contact and also gets to the foul line frequently. During the 3 games she was 12/14 from the charity stripe. Kelsey is so good at getting in the lane that she does not have to hit the three, but if she can improve that part of her game and make it a weapon she will take her game to another level.
- Reilly Brophy is a 5’5 2022 guard from Westminster that has provided a nice scoring punch to start the season. She had 14 in the opening win against Visitation and followed that with 13 in the win against St. Dominic. Reilly has his 7 shots from behind the 3-point line in the two games, which has been her main weapon. Playing with a top level guard in Highmark and with a top post in Carlie Vick Carlie Vick 6'2" | C Westminster | 2022 State MO , Reilly should have consistent opportunities to create scoring options. If she can continue to hit 35% + from behind the arc she should have a nice season.
- Brooklyn Rhodes Brooklyn Rhodes 6'0" | PF Whitfield | 2023 State MO is a 6’2 2023 Forward from Whitfield. Brooklyn is a very special young player that brings a huge array of skills to the floor. Her strength and athletic ability allow her to simply take over in certain parts of the game and get baskets, stops and rebounds when her teams needs them most. Brooklyn had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the opener against Orchard Farm and followed that up with 12 points in each of the last two games of the week. If Brooklyn can take a page from Kelsey Blakemore Kelsey Blakemore 5'9" | CG Whitfield | 2021 State MO and get to the foul line more frequently and work on her outside shot she has the potential to become one of the best in the state.
- Annie Restovich is a 5’7 2023 Guard from Visitation. Annie has proven to be a scorer that can have some explosive halves/games where she can just fill it up. As a freshman she scored 11.8 per game but had 6 games with at least 5 three point baskets. Annie has shown this same ability in the summer, most recently with the Missouri Phenom. Her season started on a low note when she struggled going 0/9 from the field against Westminster. But, a shooter shoots and she came back with 26 against Clayton including 7/8 inside the arc. Against Cor Jesu she backed up Kate with 10 points. Annie will have many more exciting games this season and we are looking forward to watching.
I look forward to continuing to watch the players on the Missouri side while I wait to see what happens in Illinois.
