Several CA players were in attendance, and here’s a quick look at some of the players who raised their profile and you should be on the lookout for.
1. Layla Curry Layla Curry 5'9" | SG Corona Centennial | 2022 State CA – Corona Centennial 2022
I first saw Curry play the summer of 2019 and she stood out as a very versatile player who can play multiple positions and do a little bit of everything on the court. She has good size and she continues to be very solid in transition. Runs the floor well and finishes at the rim. She’s a strong rebounder, especially on the offensive glass. Can play a little small ball center. She’s also a very good on ball defender.
2. Brooke Slymen Brooke Slymen 6'0" | SF Santa Margarita HS | 2022 State CA – Santa Margarita 2022
Slymen is a very skilled frontcourt player. She has solid footwork in the paint. She uses fakes well to get defenders to bite and she finishes strong at the rim. She can also stretch the floor with her shooting in the midrange and out to the three-point line. Defensively, she can be an anchor in the paint. She is a good on ball defender and she can block shots. Good help defense too. Overall active player in the paint.
3. Sarah Tait – Piner 2022
Tait is comfortable with the ball in her hands. She can get into the lane and she has a nice little floater. She can be the ball-handler in transition and she has a solid pull-up jumper. Keeps her head up on the break and can get all the way to the rim. She has consistent range out to the three-point line. She can also move without the ball and make strong dives to the rim.
4. Kathleen Hutchens 2021
Hutchens is a bit of a combo guard who likes to get out in transition. She sees the floor well and has good instincts on the break. Dribbles with her head up and she can find the open teammate. She can read the defense and recognize when she has a path to the rim. Very good looking three-point shot with a quick release. She can take advantage of smaller wings in the post. Gathers herself and can go up strong.
