A powerful bruiser on the low block, Kate Johnson Kate Johnson 6'3" | C Cherokee | 2021 State GA overpowers defenders with her size. Johnson moves bodies when she posts up and has soft hands when cleaning up misses. She does a great job of rebounding without going over the back and almost always converts if she gets multiple chances at the rim. When Kate finds a groove, she’s one of the most unstoppable low post presences in Georgia. The Furman-signee pounded Alexander in the season-opener with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocks.
2022 5-7 G Kalie Thrower – West Forsyth
With Calie Thrower sidelined, Kalie stepped up with 14 points in West Forsyth’s season-opener. Thrower got hot from deep, draining four threes en route to 14 points. She also added 3 steals. Thrower has been in the weight room and can use her strength and quickness to defend on the perimeter and body up larger players.
2022 5-10 F Maura Ryan – Blessed Trinity
Maura Ryan always found herself at the right spot at the right time for the Titans. The near positionless player has a high motor and good nose for the ball. She won multiple 50/50 balls and could score inside and out. The combo-forward had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal vs. West Forsyth.
2021 6-0 C Elizabeth Pruitt – Forsyth Central
One of the players I was most impressed with during my trip to Forsyth Central was Elizabeth Pruitt. She is a big strong post that looks like a banger at first glance, but she’s extremely skilled and quick on her feet. She can attack off the dribble and space the floor. Elizabeth is a strong post defender albeit not a great shot blocker. Her versatility makes her a sneaky good option at the D-II/III level. She finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.
2021 5-8 CG Angelina Cofrancesco – Cambridge
Angelina is a tough vocal guard that provides leadership on the floor. She’s a primary ball handler that can both help set up the offense and score when needed. When her feet are set, she can knock down threes to stretch out the defense. Cofrancesco has a strong build which she uses when getting to the hoop. She creates contact and can hurt opponents from the line. Defensively, she’s aggressive in Cambridge’s press and can earn steals. She finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 steals in a win over Walton.
2021 5-9 F Sydney Jones – Hiram
Sydney Jones does the dirty work and does it well. She is a beast inside. A workhorse on the glass that grabs every rebound in her area. Sydney looks like she lives in the weight room. She’s got burly shoulders and isn’t afraid to get physical and carve out space. Jones plays like she’s a 6-footer with how effective she is down low. She had 12 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block vs. Pope. Sydney even stepped outside to nail a three. Jones is a high academic grinder that could be a great addition in the locker room and in practice.
