Prep Girls Hoops was in attendance in the Palmetto State’s “Soda City” to take in the festivities. There was plenty of great basketball played and the atmosphere for the games that occurred was nothing short of outstanding.
Without further adieu, here is a look at some of SC’s freshman, eighth grade and seventh grade talent that soared like a Skyhawk the final week of the year in Columbia.
Joyce Edwards Joyce Edwards 6'3" | PF Camden | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Camden High School – Edwards unarguably had the performance of the first day of the Skyhawk Holiday Showcase when she led all scorers with an eye-popping 47 points. That’s right … he said 47 points. Among those 47 points were 23 attempted free throws and she made 20 of her tries from the stripe. At 6-foot-2, converting high-percentage shots, rebounding and shot-blocking will be natural elements of her game. Her scoring binge she went on even featured a couple of 3-pointers in the second half. Legacy Early College kept it close with the Bulldogs, but when Camden fed No. 12, she was almost automatic.
Alexandria Bennon Alexandria Bennon 5'7" | PG Christ Church | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Legacy Early College – A scorer who also has ability to pass the ball to an open teammate, Bennon is a premier guard who is in her first season with LaTrece Davis’ Lions. Because of her skill in penetrating to the cup, one of three things may happen when she does (which is often). She will either score in traffic against defenders, she will draw contact from a defender and get to the free throw line or she will draw so much attention it leaves her teammates open for a mid-range or long-range jumper. Bennon finished with 13 points in the tournament’s contest with Camden on its first day.
Trinity Vance Trinity Vance 5'10" | SG Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Legacy Early College – One of the more ballyhooed freshmen in the state, this one appears to be just getting started. The classic floor general that can set up the Lions offense and will either find one of her teammates or draw a defense off guard by shooting either from mid- or long-range. Vance, in the game with Camden, not only managed to score her fair share of points and garner her fair share of minutes, she also managed to stay out of foul trouble as she only had two personals called against her. Vance finished the game with the Bulldogs with 16 points.
Brooklyn Swann Brooklyn Swann 5'8" | SF Huss | 2025 State NC – 2025 – Comenius (Fort Mill) – In spite of this year being more truncated for Cornelius (and many other schools), the Knights (at 10 wins) are within striking distance of matching its win total from last season (14). Swann is one of the major factors in that for Robert Reynolds’ Cornelius team. She will reject shots when on defense, haul in rebounds and make her collection of free throws. Swann is also one of the team’s primary scorers and in a close contest with Charlotte Christian, she finished with 19 points, one better than her previous season-high which was an 18-point outing against York Prep prior to Christmas.
Zhykera Brown Zhykera Brown 5'9" | CG Legacy Early College | 2025 State SC – 2025 – Legacy Early College – Brown turns the frowns of Lions fans upside down. The first half of games get you leads, but the second half gets you victories. Even though Legacy Early College was on the receiving end of the 73-67 decision to Camden, Brown displayed qualities in the second half that are indicative of winning teams and winning players. Her 3-point shot was clutch in the second half of play as she sank a quartet of triples in the second half, finishing the game with 21 points to lead all Lions scorers. Brown’s presence also brought much energy to the team, which was shown when she made a tough shot in the second half that put her at the free throw line.
Jaida McClure – 2026 – Comenius (Fort Mill) – Jaida has already made a way under Robert Reynolds at Comenius. One can draw up a game plan to try to contain her, but it is all about if that plan is carried out to execution and stopping McClure is a tall ask. The fact that she is as much a rebounder as she is a scorer does not make things easier as far as keeping her in check. She was the Knights’ leading scorer with 22 points and as much as she continues to impress, her future appears to be getting brighter with plenty of time between now and ’26.
