The information below covers the tournament games held on December 13, 2020, which was the third of three weekend events. It highlights the top four performing players.
Gabby Grantham-Medley Gabby Grantham-Medley 5'7" | SF North Hagerstown | 2023 State MD | G/F – #32 | Unfinished Business, Class of ‘23
Of all the players I witnessed that Saturday, Gabby was without a doubt the most exciting to watch. She had the most impressive skill set, being a point-forward that spent most of her time on the court running and excelling at the point. Gabby took advantage of all opportunities to push the fast break, and once in the open court, she’s able to either get to the basket and finish through contact or drop it off to one of her teammates for the assist. In addition to her unique set of offensive skills, she is a stellar defender who has great defensive instincts. This showed up in the stats with Gabby leading all players in blocks and averaged a pair of blocks and steals per game. Gabby also doesn’t hesitate to step into the spotlight when the game is on the line. With a game tied at 28-28, Gabby took possession of a fifty-fifty ball and got her shot up as time expired with the end result being nothing but net — a definite highlight of the weekend.
Sujee Rubio | G – #23 | Virginia Hurricanes, Class of ‘23
Sujee was the best shooter I saw during the event, and has a great shot form and quick release. A great catch and shoot player with a range of a step beyond the arc, she led all players in 3-pointers made, was effective from mid-range, and showed the added ability to bring the ball up under pressure and initiate an offense. Sujee has a high basketball IQ and understands how to move without the ball, always looking for teammates to screen her defender to get open and spot up for her shot.
Talia Kouncar | F/G – # 12 | Team Vito Pink, Class of ‘22
Talia was one of the best offensive weapons on display during the tournament. Leading her teams in points scored, she showed that she can shoot from all levels. A forward with a great face-up game equipped with ball and pump fakes and handle, she’s able to create separation to penetrate, pull up from mid-range, or take it to the hoop. Talia is also a versatile defender who has quick hands and can guard multiple positions.
Aliyah Jean-Jacques | F – #25 | Unfinished Business, Class of ‘22
Aliyah had a monster game in the championship round of the tournament, and took over at times with an energy that impacted every play. She put up 19 points and 10 boards in the final game, most coming from dribble drives but a few from hitting mid-range jump shots. She seemed to get every loose ball she went after and was unstoppable going to the basket, finishing through whoever was in her way. Aliyah obviously had the highest defensive motor on the court and held her assignment in check with her active hands and physicality for what seemed like the entire tournament.
