Many California players have taken part in some of these events, and there are some that have stood out and done well to boost their stock.
Here’s a quick look at some of the CA players who have taken advantage of these opportunities.
1. Amaya Lacy – Millikan 2023
Lacy is a wing with good length. An impact player last year as a freshman and she has high upside. She can handle the ball and attack the rim off the dribble. Finishes strong through contact. She’s got a nice looking crossover and can get to her spots on the court. She can shoot off the dribble and pull-up in transition. Has range out to the three-point line. She has the tools to be an effective defender. Can use her length to contest shots.
2. Brooklyn Shamblin – 2025
Shamblin still has another year until she hits high school, but she’s done well playing against older competition. She’s a natural floor leader with great instincts and court awareness. Advanced in her ability to run an offense as a lead guard. She’s comfortable getting her own shot against older players and she’s a knockdown shooter from midrange and from three. She can see the floor, composed under defensive pressure, and can find open teammates. High upside.
3. Asia Gibson – Pioneer 2021
Gibson is a solid point guard with good handles. Comfortable and confident dribbling under defensive pressure. She’s quick in the open court and can get all the way to the rim. Reads the defense and reacts well. She can get her own shot on the perimeter, shoots it well from three-point range. She has good vision in transition and can find open teammates on the break. One of the better unsigned seniors in SoCal.
