Priyanka Ponnam is the top eighth grader in the state and with good reason. The 6-1 forward is comfortable with her back to the basket and has the build to score around the rim. What makes her different from most bigs is her ability to face up and take opponents off the dribble. Also, she has a great touch from the outside, with range out past the three-point line.
Trenton Catholic’s Aalyah Del Rosario Aalyah Del Rosario 6'5" | C Webb- Bell Buckle | 2023 State #5 Nation TN was the highest-rated player in the gym and performed like it. The 6-6 center threw eye-popping passes, handled the ball like a guard and was unstoppable around the rim.
Nobody plays harder in the state than Rutgers Prep big Christina Dalce Christina Dalce 6'2" | SF Rutgers Prep | 2021 State NJ . Trenton Catholic freshman Aurora Almon hasn’t played a high school game yet, but she showed in The Bubble a motor that is Dalce like. At 6-4, she runs like a deer, plays hard, finishes around the rim, hits the boards and blocks shots.
Trenton Catholic’s Angelica Velez Angelica Velez 5'6" | PG Webb Bell-Buckle | 2023 State TN did, what Angelica Velez Angelica Velez 5'6" | PG Webb Bell-Buckle | 2023 State TN does. She dropped dimes, pressured guards on defense and knocked down 3-pointers.
It is unusual for a player to play unselfishly in this type of setting, but Trenton Catholic’s Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ was more than happy to give the ball up. She blocked a couple of shots, made some steals and set her teammates up with good looks.
