We are taking a look across the state at various counties and metro areas and how their squads line up. This week we take a trip up to Jacksonville to look at some of the area’s top teams.
# 1 Bishop Kenny
Bishop Kenny has the most talented roster and is led by their headline Jasmyne Roberts Jasmyne Roberts 5'10" | CG Bishop Kenny | 2021 State FL . Roberts is the reigning All-News4Jax player of the year and is headed on a full scholarship to play at the University of Miami next season. Through the first several games she is averaging 26+ PPG. Rounding out the other guard spot, is Roberts backcourt mate Maddie Millar Maddie Millar 5'9" | CG Bishop Kenny | 2022 State FL . Millar has already dropped 24 points in a game this season. She is a talented, high IQ, skilled guard. Together the duo can match up with any backcourt in the state.
# 2 Raines
The Vikings went 28-2 a season ago and got knocked off by Bishop Kenny in the regional final just one game short of going to Lakeland. The squad is led by a three headed monster who account for over 30 PPG Ahliah Brown Ahliah Brown 5'7" | SG Raines | 2021 State FL (12 PPG), Jamicia Davis (10 PPG) and Selah Reddick Selah Reddick 5'9" | SF Raines | 2021 State FL (8 PPG). Head Coach Julius Paden does a great job and will have his team ready to play every game and in a position to make a run to Lakeland. They are off to a solid start, including an early season win over Valdosta.
# 3 Nease
Nease is always one of the state’s top teams and is very well coached by Head Coach Sherri Anthony. They will be led by two transfers 2022 Guard Sydney Gomes is averaging 23 PPG and 9 RPG and Desiree Robinson is averaging 12.5 PPG and has been an impactful new player for the squad. Camryn Robinson and Stephanie Manherz Stephanie Manherz 5'6" | SF Nease | 2021 State FL are both solid players that will make the Nease squad highly competitive.
# 4 Oakleaf
Oakleaf landed the seasons biggest transfer of the season with 2023 Taliah Scott Taliah Scott 5'8" | SG St. John's Country Day | 2023 State #31 Nation FL coming over from Bolles. She is one of the country’s top players and most prolific scorers. She is averaging 19 PPG early on in the season after averaging 20.8 ppg and 6.2 rpg at Bolles where she and was named a first-team All-News4Jax selection last season. Guards Fantasia James Fantasia James 5'10" | SF Oakleaf | 2023 State FL and Kaylah Turner Kaylah Turner 5'5" | PG Oakleaf | 2023 State FL were both double digit scorers last year and return for another season, but the team will go as far as Scott can lead them!
# 5 Ribault
Another team impacted by a major transfer with unsigned 2021 post Nigeria Harkless Nigeria Harkless 6'1" | PF Ribault HS | 2021 State FL coming over from University Christian will give Ribault a major interior force. 2023 Asiana Britt Asiana Britt 5'7" | CG DME Academy | 2023 State FL and Asia Fleming are double digit scorers for the team and Kendra Williams nearly averaged double digit rebounds.
