Hart County High School in Hartwell hosted the McDonald’s Shootout on Monday, part of a three-day event. Typically a 50/50 split between South Carolina and Georgia schools, constant adjustments to the schedule has led to a majority of the field being GHSA programs. Here are some of the top players from Day 1 of the event.
2021 5-11 F Rose Bone Rose Bone 5'11" | SF Loganville | 2021 State GA – Loganville
The Lenoir-Rhyne-signee put on a show, pouring in 20 of her game-high 22 points in the first half to go with her 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and 1 block as the Red Devils defeated Hart County 65-45. Bone is a legitimate inside-out threat. She’s a strong athlete with great body control. She is patient inside and gathers herself before scoring through contact. On the perimeter, she can create off the dribble when needed to get to her spots in the mid-range and also is capable of stroking the three. She finished her night with a pretty eurostep in traffic. Bone got whatever she wanted throughout the day. She will be an immediate impact maker at Lenoir-Rhyne.
2021 6-0 F Janae Charles Janae Charles 6'0" | SF Loganville | 2021 State GA – Loganville
Possibly Georgia’s best unsigned post, Janae Charles Janae Charles 6'0" | SF Loganville | 2021 State GA is a complete player. She can play all over the floor with her great IQ and mobility. She helped run the offense on occasion, displaying her ball handling and passing. Charles finishes with either hand inside and has enough ball skills to beat her man off the dribble. Janae finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.
2023 5-6 PG Aaniyah Allen – Elbert County
Aaniyah Allen is a quick little guard with a sharp crossover that keeps her defenders off balance when attacking the rim. Allen’s shifty play makes her tough to keep out of the lane where she does a good job finishing through contact. Allen is aggressive and athletic, earning deflections and steals. As she grows and gets stronger, her game will continue to improve by leaps and bounds. Her outside shot is good enough to keep defenses honest but has room for growth. She piled in 17 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block in a 62-29 win over TL Hanna.
2023 5-5 PG Terrace Hester – Elbert County
A savvy high-IQ point guard, Terrace Hester has a great all-around floor game. Hester makes good decisions, knowing when to probe the defense for her own offense and when to set the table for others. Her on-ball pressure and defensive instincts key a relentless full-court press. Offensively, she uses a hesitation dribble to lull defenders to sleep and has a nice mid-range jumper. Hester tacked on 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
2024 5-7 PG Dakota Phillips – Hart County
The future is extremely bright for Dakota Phillips who comes from a long lineage of standout athletes. Phillips has a great build, packed with muscle and strength at a young age. She can handle bumps when getting to the basket and does a good job against pressure. Phillips is a solid scorer that has worked on her outside shot. The one area of Dakota’s game that never fails to impress is her vision. She’s a great passer for her age and can suck in defenses before diming to open teammates. Her feel for the game makes her a cerebral threat.
