Riley Simpson, Whitefield Academy – Left off our original watchlist because she didn’t play any varsity basketball last season, Simpson should be a top freshman in Louisville this year. Whitefield is going to be very young this year but Riley is likely to be their go-to scorer and likely get a trial by fire as a young guard.
Leandra Curnutte Leandra Curnutte 5'6" | PG Lawrence County | 2024 State KY , Paintsville – A transfer from Boyd County, Leandra played in all but 3 games last season for Boyd and her loss will be felt by the Lady Lions. Boyd’s loss is Paintsville’s gain as she will bring some experience to a roster with other young talent on it and the roster should continue gelling together over the next few years.
Mariah Knight Mariah Knight 6'1" | PF Butler | 2024 State KY , Mercy – A big time transfer from Butler, Knight passes the eye test more than most as she already has great size and athleticism heading into the start of her actual high school career. Mariah only averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds per game for a loaded Butler team last season but could be a 12 and 6 type of player for Mercy in her freshman season.
Savannah Gardner Savannah Gardner 6'0" | SF Christian Academy Louisville | 2024 State KY and Ella Daniels Ella Daniels 5'10" | CG Christian Academy Louisville | 2024 State KY , CAL – Putting these two together because we got several messages about how both should step up for the Centurions this season. Neither saw a ton of court time last season on a veteran CAL team but are likely to have big roles as freshmen as CAL reloads the roster.
Niah Rhodes Niah Rhodes 5'7" | CG Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY , Woodford County – After being a spot starter for coach Erik Daniels last season, Niah is likely to be a full time starter in 2021 and hoping for a breakout season in the 8th region. Rhodes can score already. She put up 5 points per game as an 8th grader and should be a double figure scorer this season in a much bigger role for Woodford.
Addison Riley Addison Riley 5'7" | SF Bardstown | 2024 State KY , Bardstown – A transfer from Nelson County, Addison should add a lot of firepower to a Bardstown team that has a chance to make a run in the 5th region. Last season Riley put up 5 points per game with modest shooting splits. If she becomes a better shooter heading into her freshman season, she can average double figures and bring a big boost to the Bardstown roster.
