Continue ReadingThis game was a battle of perimeter play versus post play from the tip-off. McKinney’s guards fought tooth in nail on their defeat while Lewisville hosted a clinic on the block. Of the seven standouts from this game, five are unsigned seniors or underclassmen that are worthy of collegiate looks.
Jerzee Jordan | McKinney | 2022
This junior forward made plays on the defensive end that turned to offense in a hurry. She showed versatility in this game guarding on the perimeter and jamming players in the post.
Chioma Ukaji | McKinney | 2021
Ukaji’s opening shot was a three well beyond the college three line. Her effortless stroke kept the defense attached to her for the rest of the game. A tight handle makes her the ideal backcourt mate to White’s scoring.
Trinity White Trinity White 5'9" | CG McKinney | 2021 State TX | McKinney | Butler Commit
White didn’t have the best shooting night, but it’s obvious she knows where her spots are on the floor. White has a nice handle using footwork and a few counters to get past the defense. As the lead ball handler, she was able to get downhill and get into strong scoring positions inside the arc. An efficient runner made her a double-digit scorer. Butler is getting a talented scoring guard whose efficiency will likely skyrocket with more talent around her.
Laila Lawrence | Lewisville | A&M commerce
Lawrence, a Texas A&M commerce commit, is an ever-impressive finisher. Whether it’s with her left or right hand, you can bet the ball is coming off her fingertips with feathery softness. Her drop step and pivot series are nearly automatic at this level. Being able to move like a forward in the open court is an added bonus, especially when switching onto guards who don’t have the tightest handle.
Mya Dotson | Lewisville | 2023
Dotson’s in line to cover the hole Lawrence will inevitably leave when she graduates. The sophomore had early success on the right block, using an eerily familiar drop step before kissing the ball off the glass for two. Dotson’s length, speed, and flashes of ball skill for someone her size point to some legitimate perimeter play before her 2023 graduation date.
Kianna Jones | Lewisville | 2023
The two threes Jones hit in the first frame really show what this sophomore is made of. Jones played little in the second half but with 4 seniors and altogether 6 varsity returners I’d say it’s safe to revisit Jones and her shooting as she progresses through two more varsity eligible seasons.
Haley Allen Haley Allen 5'7" | SG Lewisville | 2021 State TX | Lewisville | 2021
Allen had a quiet offensive performance, but when your primary objective is to slow down one of the best guards in the DFW, you have other things to worry about. The 5-6 senior used her long arms and quick feet to smother ball handlers. When her goal was to deny the ball, her matchup barely saw daylight. She really knows how to make things rough for guards in pick and roll situations. If you’re going to score against this guard, you’re going to work for each shot attempt.
