What is there to look forward to in 2021? The start of the New Jersey high school girls basketball season.
The Garden State is one of the most exciting places to be when it comes to girls basketball and Prep Girls Hoops has been taking a closer look at the best talent across the state.
That continues in this article as PGH profiles the top guards in the Shore Conference, specifically the B North region.
Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ , St. John Vianney: St. Rose, a junior, is one of the players to watch this season across the state, the unquestionable leader of a St. John Vianney team that went 28-1 last season. St. Rose averaged 18.3 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 3.4 APG, 4.2 SPG and 0.7 made threes a game. What’s crazy about this SJV team going into 2021 is that St. Rose isn’t even its best three-point shooter, but she’s one of the most consistent shooters on the team. The depth it has is insane and St. Rose, after what she was able to do in 2019/20, is going to dominate on the court in 2021.
Chloe Teter, Red Bank Regional: Teter is coming into her senior season as Red Bank Regional’s best scorer, best defender and one of its best rebounders. She’s a well-rounded player who averaged 13.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 3.2 SPG, 0.7 BPG and 1.4 made threes a game. Teter is a key returning star for RBR, who went 21-7 in 2019/20 and its most complete player. She fills up the stat sheet and was as good at it gets as a junior. Now as a senior, she’s looking to end her high school career on a high, and come January, she will leave it all out on the floor.
Amaya Evans Amaya Evans 5'5" | PG Neptune | 2022 State NJ , Neptune: Evans is one of two spectacular guards that Neptune bolsters going into 2021, its leading returning scorer, passer and outside shooter, plus a defensive wizard. She averaged 14.2 PPG in her sophomore season with Neptune, along with 3.5 SPG and 1.4 made threes a game. She’s an unstoppable combination of speed and strength with an effortless shooting touch. Evans has tough competition around her in the division and the conference, but if she stepped up to the challenge last season, she’ll do that and more this season.
Victoria Palladino, Middletown North: Palladino is going to be one of the big keys for Middletown North to get back on track as a program, coming off a tough 8-18 season in 2019/20. She led the team in scoring with 7.9 PPG and in steals with just under 2.1, but her x-factor is her shooting. On the perimeter, she paced Middletown North with 1.3 made threes a game last season and she will be relied upon in that spot immensely come January. Palladino should put up double-digit scoring averages in 2021, so expect her to be much more active and dominant with the rock.
Skylar Parris, Matawan: Harris is one of a few bright spots that will be making some big strides for Matawan last season and one of two double-digit scorers. She averaged just over 10.0 PPG with exactly 1.0 APG and made threes a game, plus 1.8 SPG and 3.4 RPG. She is reliable and efficient with the ball in her hands and despite Matawan struggling to a 6-19 record last season, Parris is going to be a big piece in reversing the luck for the Huskies in 2021.
