There have been some tremendous performances early on in the 2021 girls basketball season. Teams and players are set on making early statements in this very unique season. Let’s take a look at five early-season standouts across New Jersey.
Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ , Glassboro, So. – Davis has started off the season incredibly efficient for Glassboro. The sophomore is averaging 34 points through two games in a 2-0 start. She put in 36 points in the season opener against Pitman, and she followed with 32 points in a meeting with Overbrook, connecting on four 3-pointers. She had a double-double in both games, and is averaging 17.5 rebounds through the first couple of games. Davis also has nine blocks and eight steals in two games.
Rylie Theuerkauf Rylie Theuerkauf 5'7" | SG Tenafly | 2023 State NJ , Tenafly, So.: Theuerkauf had one of the most impressive scoring displays in recent years with a 48-point showing in Tenafly’s season-opening win over Bergen Tech, connecting on six 3-pointers and also getting six steals on defense. The sophomore followed with 24 points in a loss to Teaneck.
Destiny Adams Destiny Adams 6'3" | SF Manchester | 2021 State #26 Nation NJ , Manchester Township, Sr. – Adams has been a mission early on in the season for Manchester Township. In the running for Player of the Year, she has certainly made a case following the first two games of the year. A North Carolina commit, Adams finished with 27 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks in a 21-point win over Jackson Liberty to open the campaign. She followed with even more impressive numbers in a 64-38 win over Jackson Liberty two days later, going for 30 points, 21 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals.
Paulina Paris, Saddle River Day, Jr. – Paris had quite the debut for Saddle River Day in its 85-51 win over Life Center on Jan. 26. The transfer from Albertus Magnus in New York should make a great impact for the state power this season. She opened with 29 points, six assists, four rebounds, three steals and a block. Paris knocked down five 3-pointers in the win.
Brynn McCurry Brynn McCurry 6'1" | PF Sparta | 2023 State NJ , Sparta, So. – Sparta will certainly be a team to keep an eye on this season. McCurry has been efficient as one of the team leaders thus far in Sparta’s 2-0 start. The sophomore opened with 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals in a win over Morristown, and she followed with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds in a quality victory over Montville.
