There is too much talent that deserves to be mentioned, especially in a tough year like the one that we are experiencing. With a shortened season especially, you never know who might rise to the top. That being said, I’m going to give you 5 under the radar players that could make the type of run this season that puts them in contention for Miss Basketball.
Kaybriana Hallman Kaybriana Hallman 6'3" | PF East Kentwood | 2021 State MI (PF, East Kentwood)
Hallman is an electrifying athlete that makes big plays. She attacks passing lanes and pushes tempo off the turnover. Hallman’s style of play is very conducive to winning a high profile award like Miss Basketball. She will be off to Xavier to play at the next level.
Alanna Micheaux Alanna Micheaux 6'2" | PF Wayne Memorial | 2021 State MI (PF, Wayne Memorial)
Micheaux is a monster in the paint. She’s one of the strongest and most intimidating post players in the midwest. Micheaux can stack up numbers while dominating the lane and that could serve her well in the race for the 2021 Michigan Miss Basketball. She will be playing collegiately at Minnesota.
Emaia O’Brien Emaia O’Brien 5'7" | PG Chandler Park | 2021 State MI (PG, Chandler Park)
O’Brien has a very real chance at this thing. Sometimes I think that she could put up a point a minute if she really wanted to. Either way, O’Brien can absolutely dominate a game offensively. Staggering numbers and big time performances in big games will have her in the discussion at the end of the season. She will star at Long Island University after high school.
Ella Stemmer Ella Stemmer 5'10" | SG Saline | 2021 State MI (SG, Saline)
If you followed her for the second half of last season, you know exactly why she’s on this list. Stemmer is as steady as they come and if she leads Saline on a post season run like last year, there’s no reason that she shouldn’t be considered.
Shannon Wheeler Shannon Wheeler 6'1" | PF Detroit Renaissance | 2021 State MI (PF, Detroit Renaissance)
I’ll start by saying that there isn’t anyone that deserves to be mentioned more. Wheeler is the true definition of a team player. She takes on whatever role her team needs in order to win. And not only does she take on different roles, she excels. Wheeler would be a great representation of what high school basketball in Michigan should be all about.
