Keenan scored early and often, establishing a dominating 22-3 advantage after the first quarter. Blythewood with a combination of offense and defense attempted to make it a game early in the second half by embarking on an 8-0 run, but Keenan regained its advantage and never looked back.
Prep Girls Hoops was on hand at Keenan High School from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Here are several from Friday night’s game that impressed.
Michaela Bosman Michaela Bosman SF Blythewood | 2021 State SC – 2021 – Blythewood High School – From start to finish, Bosman is one of the focal points for the Bengals on both offense and defense. Her value to the team was particularly on display during moments for Blythewood when it showed signs of life. Early in the second quarter, Blythewood showed signs of getting back into the game with an 8-0 run that made it a 24-11 contest after the Raiders jumped out to a 19-point edge to conclude the first quarter. A pair of 3-pointers from Bosman made a major difference in the Bengals’ comeback efforts. In addition to her shooting and defensive work, she is also an effective rebounder who was the Bengals’ leading scorer with 15 points.
Milaysia Fulwiley Milaysia Fulwiley 5'8" | PG Keenan | 2023 State #9 Nation SC – 2023 – Keenan High School – There is a reason why so much has already been written about her and why even more will continue to be written about her as her preps career continues to blossom and advance. Teams know that if they want to have a chance at putting Keenan in the loss column, they have to contain No. 23. There was not much containment of Fulwiley as she set the tone early by scoring the first points of the game with a 3-pointer. Then she scored some more, some more and some more from anywhere on the floor. In addition, she blocked shots, rebounded, assisted and hit her free throws. It was a 34-point effort for Fulwiley on this night.
Makayla Jones Makayla Jones 5'10" | PF Blythewood | 2021 State SC – 2021 – Blythewood High School – On that early second-quarter comeback effort … as important as offense was in making that happen, so was defense. Jones was a defensive anchor early in that second quarter, conjuring up a couple of timely stops needed to temporarily stymie the Keenan offense. This, of course, set up Bosman on the offensive end to be able to drain the shots necessary to engineer a possible comeback bid. She got the start for Steve Inabinet’s team and had one of those “doing little things that are not always present on a stat sheet” sort of games. Jones also displayed an ability to draw contact from defenders and find her way to the free throw line while receiving her fair share of playing time.
Aiyo Price Aiyo Price 5'6" | CG Keenan | 2023 SC – 2023 – Keenan High School – Outside of Fulwiley, she was the only other Raider that finished the game with a double-digit point output. Price tallied 10 points – including six in the first quarter when the Keenan rout was simply in its beginning stages. She also was efficient on defense, managed to be in situation where she was right near the rim for high-percentage shots, attempted from downtown and got out in transition. She, as did much of coach Reggie McLain’s Raiders team also managed to keep out of foul trouble as well.
Jailyn Oree Jailyn Oree 5'9" | PF Keenan | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Keenan High School – Oree is alright with the Raiders. Scoring-wise, she found her footing in the second half, and particularly in the fourth quarter. All seven of the points she scored came in the second half which included five in the fourth quarter. Among those five were three “the hard way” after a foul. Oree also collected rebounds and was an anchor on the defensive end for the Raiders.
