Continue ReadingAs the new year kicked off, some schools changed some of their top lieutenants to help lead their perspective programs. These men and women stepped into the HC role, looking to improve their clubs, all the while bringing a fresh new style to their school. Here is a list of some of the new faces looking to lead their programs in a new direction.
Becky Starks (Lipscomb Academy)– New to Middle Tennessee after serving as an assistant at Grace Christian Academy, Coach Starks looks to pick up where she left off using her winning ways she adapted at Harding Academy. She looks to take over a Lipscomb program that has a bright future ahead of them.
Tony McLeod (Father Ryan)– Coach McLeod comes to Father Ryan after coaching at GCA the previous year. Midway through his first campaign, the coach has developed a culture that has instilled integrity and accountability amongst the Lady Irish program. Look for this program to compete in a tough district.
Micheal Couey (Grace Christian Academy)– Coach Couey looks to bring his winning ways over to the girls side of the game. President of EAB travel basketball club, he will look to build upon the Lady Lions program and instill similar success he has had at previous stops such as CPA and Hamilton Heights.
Charles Clark (Clarksville Academy)– Coach Clark takes over a CA program looking to make waves in the Clarksville area. Coming over from Kenwood, Coach looks to instill his aggressive style of play into the CA culture.
Micheal Shewmake ( Webb Bell Buckle)– Coach looks to lead a talented group of kids towards winning a district title. He has a fast and highly touted group that is giving the town something to talk about.
John Wild (Summit) – Coach looks to build upon success within the district moving 20 minutes south. Coach inherits a fast group of girls who can put the ball in the hoop.
Even though there have been newcomers coming in to take over programs, these coaches have remained pillars for their perspective programs. These men and women have been staples on the sideline for their programs, providing them with energy, hope, and a platform to excel on.
Dana McWilliams (Upperman)– Coach looks to lead this impressive group back to the state for a 3rd consecutive time.
Jennifer Grandstaff (Blackman)– This veteran coach came out of retirement to lead an awesome Blaze program. Look for Coach Grandstaff to instill her winning ways into the Blackman community.
Rhonda Brown (Brentwood Academy)– Has developed a plethora of talent, while competing for state titles year after year.
Cherish Stringfellow (Hillsboro)- This coach has been one of the best in Metro Nashville, while helping develop some highly skilled players.
Cory Barrett (Lebanon)– Coach has developed a hard nose culture that has instilled a tradition into the Lady Devilettes program.
Joanne Tribue (Cane Ridge)– The queen of coaching, Coach Tribue continues to rack up victories while mentoring young student-athletes.
Amy Josephson (Riverdale)- Coach looks to carry on the Riverdale tradition while churning out impressive talented young ladies who compete for state and district titles.
Shelby Campbell (Oakland)– Young, up and coming coach looking to crack her program into the top of her district.
Cody McMurtry (Tullahoma)– Steadfast pillar in the Tullahoma community, coach looks to continue his winning ways.
EJ Perry (Westmoreland)– Young gun, Coach Perry has Westmoreland heading in a new direction, with a mindset of capturing state titles.
Myles Thrash (Brentwood)– Coach Thrash looks to continue to develop players. His program has a tremendous amount of depth that will allow him to compete for state and district titles.
John Gibson (Baylor)- A pillar for years at Baylor, Coach Gibson looks to continue his winning ways.
Brian Rush (Clarksville)– One of the top coaches in the Clarksville area, will look to lead his Lady Wildcats towards a district title.
Mary Taylor Cowles (Ensworth)– Will look to continue her impressive run of capturing state titles.
Holly Hoagland (Fayetteville)– Coach has given this sleepy town some juice around this program. She leads an exciting group of girls.
Missy Harper (Giles Co.)– The Matriarch of the program, Coach Harper looks to continue building upon her winning tradition, while providing a platform for her girls to excel on.
Kyle Upton (East Nashville)– Look for Coach Upton to leave his mark on a program. Longtime assistant will be developing a fast speed game on the east side of Nashville.
Shronda Moore ( Hunters Lane)– Coach Moore leads a scrappy team that will have you in a dog fight night in and night out.
Chris Ladd (Nolensville)– Leads a veteran group that will compete deep into the district.
Angi Puckett (Pope John Paul II)– Coach Puckett is creating something special north of Nashville. Look for her program to make some noise in the coming years.
Cati Embrey (Summertown)– Coach will be leading a solid group of young ladies towards competing for state titles.
Joshua Bugg (Columbia Central)– Coach Bugg looks to build upon the foundation he has laid throughout the Central community. Look for his program to start competing for district titles down the road.
