Paige Kohler Paige Kohler 5'8" | PG Olmsted Falls | 2023 State OH , 5-6 2023, Olmstead Falls
What a good month of December for Paige. The sophomore has been on fire all season, scoring and improving her game from the start of the year. She has been pretty lowkey and not many people know about her, but that is likely about to change. She has performed well and her ceiling should be raised as she continues to play well.
Liv Thompson, 5-6 2023, Preble Shawnee
I wrote about her earlier in the year, and after seeing her in person recently, there is no doubt her stock is rising. Still has some work to do on parts of her game, but as she continues to gain confidence, she will keep getting better. Love the way she can get to the rim and is afraid of contact. Also has a good range to her perimeter shooting. Good court awareness and a solid month of December.
Campbell Jewel, 5-6 2023, Preble Shawnee
She is certainly no secret in the Dayton area, having a big freshman year. But she put together a very solid month of December like her teammate Thompson with some big games against some of the top teams. Despite losses to Arcanum and Waynesville, Campbell shot just under 50% from the field in those two games, scoring 31 points in the two games. She is a stockriser and works well with her backcourt partner.
Elisha Carter, 5-7 2021, Calvary Christian
Not many know about her, as she plays for a non-OHSAA school. She has played several OHSAA schools this season, and against those schools she is averaging close to 24 points per game last month. Elisha surpassed 2,000 career points and to be honest, that is impressive no matter who you are facing. Excellent perimeter shooter, can hit from all around the arc. Good handles and is a team leader. Unsigned senior to watch.
Taylor Matthews-Johnson, 5-11 2022, Brush
Coming off a season that saw an ACL team, Taylor is back as a junior and put up some big numbers in December. She is averaging 17 points per game and continues to get stronger. She can play different positions and hurt you from different spots on the floor.
Taylor Haynes, 5-6 2024, Lutheran East
What a dynamic point guard who had a very productive month for East. She is averaging 12 points, three assists and five steals per game, as she can do it all on the court. Athletic and uses that to create turnovers with her solid defense. Also can play transition basketball and is the heart and soul of the team as a freshman.
Justice Steinman-Ross, 6-1 2022, Marion Harding
Long and athletic, Justice is an inside/outside scoring threat from the post and midrange area, while also being able to produce for her team around the basket. She is a solid rebounder and can block or alter shots defensively. She has a lot of defensive versatility and that will help her game continue to grow.
Josie Early, 5-7 2023, Loveland
It is only her first year as a full time varsity player, and she has made an immediate name for herself in December. She has burst onto the scene averaging nine points and three rebounds per game. She has put together some impressive games early in the season including 18 vs Winton Woods. As the season progresses, watch for her game to continue to grow.
Jordyn Smoot Jordyn Smoot 5'9" | CG Springfield Catholic | 2024 State OH , 5-9 2024, Springfield Catholic Central
Another freshman who has come onto the scene in a strong way. She doesn’t have to focus on her scoring this season with an experienced team back. Not to say she can’t score because she can, but her athleticism and defensive pressure and presence makes her an immediate threat all over the floor. Excited to see her in the next couple of weeks and see how much she has improved. (pictured right).
Bri Claxon Bri Claxon 5'7" | PG South Webster | 2022 State OH , 5-8 2022, South Webster
She had an incredible month of December, and is a major gym rat. Averaging over 30 points per game in December with all types of defenses thrown at her. Also a good rebounding guard and can distribute the ball well. Utility guard, very fast and good hops. Can play either the point or the off guard. Incredible body control, can hit the floater. Plays for Team Ohio in the summer.
