Some of the top class of 2024/2025 talent from around the country took part in the event, including many from California. I wasn’t able to attend the event, but was able to follow along via livestream and social media. Here’s a quick look at some of the CA players who should be on the radar.
1. Mackenly Randolph Mackenly Randolph 5'10" | PF Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA – Sierra Canyon 2024
With the regular season on hold, this is pretty much Randolph’s welcome to high school basketball. She already has some advanced skills in the paint. She’s a big body who can take up space, and she’s boxes out well to secure rebounds. Crashes the offensive glass and goes right back up strong with the basketball, she doesn’t bring it back down and allow the defense to get set. Nice footwork in the post. She’s got a nice midrange shot too. Defensively, she can be an interior anchor. Contests well in the paint.
2. Athena Tomlinson – Clovis West 2024
Tomlinson is a very crafty point guard with the ability to be an explosive scorer at the high school level. She’s very quick and comfortable with the ball in her hands. Finds the seams in the defense and can get to the rim. She can move without the ball too; good spot up shooter from three-point ranges. She uses her quickness to her advantage on the defensive end too. She moves her feet well and applies pressure.
3. Aliyahna Morris – 2025
Morris is still one year away from high school, but she’s shown out against older competition. Morris is a talented point guard who isn’t fazed by defensive pressure when she’s got the ball in her hands. She can find the openings in the defense and take advantage with her crafty ball-handling. A slasher who can finish at the rim or find teammates. She’s tough to guard in transition. She’ll make the right play whether its taking the shot or making the pass.
4. Kennedy Smith Kennedy Smith 6'0" | PF Etiwanda | 2024 State CA – 2024
Smith has very good size already. She’s got all the tools to be an intimidating presence in the paint. She runs the floor well and is active around the rim; strong finisher. She moves well without the ball as well. She can make plays off the dribble at times too. Quick feet defensively who can stick with a ball-handler and contest drives to the rim. Very good rebounder.
