With that in mind, here are some of the best two-way players that I’ve seen through the first half of the season:
Demauria Miles | 2021 | 5’8’’ Shooting Guard | Hebron HS – Miles can seriously go on offense. She has a relentless motor and scores from inside and outside. That motor shows up on defense too where the senior guard is constantly pestering opposing ball handlers and finding ways to force turnovers.
Alexis Cortez Alexis Cortez 5'10" | SF Allen | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 5’11’’ Small Forward | Allen HS – Cortez is a terrific perimeter defender. The Allen wing moves her feet and possesses great lateral quickness, rarely allowing opponents to get past her. She can shoot the three comfortably from a few steps behind the arc, handle the ball, and distribute both in transition and the half court.
Sa’Myah Smith Sa’Myah Smith 6'4" | PF DeSoto | 2022 State #14 Nation TX | 2022 | 6’4’’ Power Forward | DeSoto HS – Smith is a gifted post player with size, length, and athleticism to spare. She is tremendous at turning back shots and impacts the ones that she can’t get a piece of. The junior power forward can also fill up the scoring column with gorgeous finishes in the post. Additionally, she cleans the defensive glass with ease thanks to her length and leaping ablity.
KK Jones | 2023 | 5’8’’ Combo Guard | Denton Guyer HS – Jones has benefited from an increased role on offense in her sophomore season. She can knock down the three ball and is a tough finisher off the drive, scoring through contact and converting at a high clip from the foul line. On defense, the 2023 guard is a great on-ball defender who gets down into a stance and remains engaged from start to finish.
Kendall Brown Kendall Brown 5'9" | CG Desoto | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 5’9’’ Combo Guard | DeSoto HS – Brown is the epitome of a do-it-all player. She has shown a broad range of skills at both ends of the floor and is willing to do whatever is required of her when she steps on the court. DeSoto’s senior leader is a great passer who can play at either guard spot, and consistently plays hard on defense.
India Howard | 2022 | 6’0’’ Power Forward | Coppell HS – Howard is a specimen. She is big, strong, athletic, as well as pretty skilled. The junior forward finishes well down low and can even put the ball on the floor and attack off the dribble. She is also a tough-nosed defender and good shot blocker in the paint. Furthermore, Howard is an outstanding rebounder.
Zyniah Thomas | 2021 | 5’6’’ Point Guard | Dallas Skyline HS – Thomas possesses fantastic speed and quickness with the ball. She can fly in the open court. She has good court vision and is fearless when it comes to getting into the paint against larger opponents where she can do damage as a passer or a scorer. The senior floor general does a great job of playing the passing lanes too, expertly turning defense into offense.
Camille Thomas | 2021 | 5’11’’ Power Forward | Hebron HS – Thomas plays with an edge at both ends. She operates with a sense of urgency on offense, constantly looking to get downhill and unafraid of being banged around on her way to the basket, while also displaying the ability to stretch out and drill mid-range jumpers. Defensively, the 2021 forward is physical and disruptive at all times, refusing to be outworked by her opponents.
