Taking care of the ball and limiting turnovers is their first and main priority. The point guard should be a leader and know and understand a team and it’s goals each possession more than anyone else on the team. Knowing time and score is crucial and determines how a point guard proceeds in game action. A point guard that can make open shots and score is very valuable as well. A complete point guard is hard to come by. North Dakota has a long list of point guard prospects that can play at the next level. It’s a fun group to evaluate and PGH has a list of North Dakota point guards that our audience should know. Let’s get to know the prospects.
It’s long overdue that we mention the name Maggie Fricke Maggie Fricke 5'8" | PG Minot | 2026 State ND . She is the next great point guard prospect of North Dakota. Fans have the pleasure of watching her play for quite some time, as she’s only a 7th grader and is already Minot’s starting point guard. That’s very rare and is very exciting for scouts, fans, and college coaches. She’s averaging 10.4 ppg. and is 7-16 (44%) from three and 82% from the free-throw line. She is skilled and quick at the varsity level. Plays on-ball defense like a Senior-leader point guard. There’s a lot of basketball to be played and time for development for Magdelana. It will be interesting to see how far she can take it.
Peyton Breidenbach Peyton Breidenbach 5'7" | PG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2023 State ND – West Fargo Sheyenne – (5’7/PG/2023) – Starting at the point for West Fargo Sheyenne in her Sophomore season. Her numbers include 8.2 ppg., 4.0 apg., 1.6 stls., and has hit five threes in five games. She has two 12 point games and two 4 point games. Not extremely talented in one area of skill, but is well-rounded and solid in all areas. She still has skills and can make plays, so she’s one of the upper tier 2023 point guard prospects in North Dakota.
Ashton Safranski Ashton Safranski 5'7" | PG Fargo Davies | 2024 State ND – Fargo Davies – (5’4/PG/2024) – A freshman that is getting some good minutes at the point for Fargo Davies. She plays poised and comfortable in varsity action. Good skills and ball handling ability — running the offense well and getting things under control. A great passer that has great decision making abilities as a passer. Moves the ball well around the perimeter. She can push the ball with great speed and cut with fluidity at that quick pace. On 1/8/21 versus Fargo South she had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. She is also averaging 2.2 steals/game.
Jilee Golus Jilee Golus 5'6" | PG Bismarck High | 2021 State ND – Bismarck High – (5’6/CG/2021) – Jilee is a playmaker. A super-quick and twitchy athlete that causes defensive havoc. She averages 11.8 ppg. and nearly swipes four steals per game, averaging 3.8 per contest. She’s a scoring threat and a defensive playmaker. She gets into the teeth of the defense off-the-dribble all game. She has a confidence about her on the court and uses it on both ends of the floor.
Jadyn Dieterle Jadyn Dieterle 5'9" | PG Valley City | 2021 State ND – Valley City – (5’9/PG/2021) – A long, lengthy, and smooth point guard. Jadyn has the frame, skill, and IQ to be a college point guard. The Senior guard is contributing in many ways, averaging 10.3 ppg., 5.0 apg., 4.9 rpg., 3.6 stls., with an 11 steal performance. Against Wahpeton she put in 15 points. She’s a threat from three and can get into the lane with her length and size. Jadyn is a top 20 prospect in the class of 2021.
Carlee Sieben Carlee Sieben 5'8" | PG Grafton | 2021 State ND – Grafton – (5’8/PG/2021) – Carlee is a skilled and seasoned point guard for the Grafton Spoilers. She has a good handle on the ball and a great feel for the game. She’s best with the ball in her hands, on the move. Grafton loves to run Carlee off of ball screens to get her going, creating her space, and turning a corner. Her range extends to three.
Brynn Giesen Brynn Giesen 5'7" | PG West Fargo | 2021 State ND – West Fargo – (5’7/PG/2021) – Brynn is a true point guard that plays with quick pace and constant movement. She comes off a high ball-screen, instantly becoming a threat and playmaker. She’s not a point guard you don’t have to worry about. She will push the tempo for West Fargo and you’ll see an uptick in pace with Brynn on the court. She can knock down threes and is a complete point guard, averaging 8.7 ppg., 5.2 apg., 3.3 rpg., and 2.7 stls. She climbs a ton of spots in our next rankings update.
Kate Busek Kate Busek 5'9" | PG Fargo Shanley | 2021 State ND – Shanley – (5’9/PG/2021) – Another long point guard with exceptional handles and ball control. Handles and relieves pressure very well. One of the best and most accurate passers at the position. She can make long passes down the court with accuracy and precision. Kate is averaging 7.1 ppg. and had three straight games with 12+ points. She chips in quite well in rebounds, assists, and steals as well. Kate’s size and length allow her to make plays and take care of the ball for Shanley.
Payton Gerving Payton Gerving 5'7" | PG Bismarck High | 2022 State ND – Bismarck High – (5’7/PG/2022) – The Junior point guard is playing well and shooting the three well at a 50% clip. She’s averaging 10.4 ppg. and is also 80% from the free throw line. Payton is a talented point guard that has a smooth stroke from three. She showed her potential against Watford City with 24 points, going 5/8 from three.
