Burlington City was the first school to cancel the winter season back in October. Since, over 10 high schools have opted out, and that list continues to grow.
Carteret opted out of basketball and bowling last week. The Middlesex County school also opted out of fall sports in 2020.
Another Middlesex County school, Old Bridge, delayed the start to its winter season due to the pandemic.
Perth Amboy cancelled winter sports this week, as the school is in a hybrid learning setting until April.
Moorestown Friends will have inters-quad competition for basketball and fencing teams this winter, avoiding going up against other schools.
The West Windsor-Plainsboro school district, featuring West Windsor-Plainsboro North and South, will not play contests outside of the district. The two high schools will still hold practices and play each other in basketball. The district also opted out of fall sports.
Medford and Westampton tech canceled their winter seasons rather early, on Oct. 30.
A few schools in Newark also have opted out. North Star Academy cancelled basketball seasons for both boys and girls this week, and St. Vincent Academy, an all-girls school in Newark, opted out back in December.
Camden County Technical Schools and Golda Och of West Orange also opted out of the winter season.
This list may continue to grow as COVID-19 affects New Jersey in the coming weeks.
