As far as boys and girls basketball goes, this is one of the best tournaments year in and year out. This year is no different. The girls field features some of the best teams in the state and several match-up’s we see this week could end up being state tournament previews. The tournament field features four top ten teams in Class 6A and the top ranked team in Class 4A.
We’ll also see plenty of individual talent on display. The majority of the teams in the tourney field have some of the best players in the state. And we’ll see literally the best overall players in their classes. For instance, the top overall 2021 prospect, Aaliyah Moore Aaliyah Moore 6'2" | SF Moore | 2021 State #6 Nation OK of Moore, a Texas signee is in the tournament. So is the top overall 2022 prospect in Classen’s Darianna Littlepage-Buggs Darianna Littlepage-Buggs 6'1" | SF Classen SAS | 2022 State #24 Nation OK . The tournament gets started on Thursday morning and runs until Saturday. No matter what day you go, you’re sure to see some of the best basketball you’ll see until the state tournament begins.
THE SCHEDULE
10AM – #2 Moore (5-0) VS Putnam City (3-4)
– The first game of the tournament features one of the favorites in the tournament in Moore as they face off with Putnam City. The Lady Lions picked right up where they left off last season, jumping out to a 5-0 start. They also won’t be worried about knocking the rust off as 4 of their last 5 games have come in the last 9 days. Putnam City has won their last 2 games but they’ve struggled mightily against the best teams in 6A.
1PM – #7 Putnam City North (5-1) VS #9 Bixby (6-3)
– Without a doubt the best game of the day is this top ten match-up between Bixby and Putnam City North. Bixby limped out of the Mustang tournament last week with a 1-2 record. However, the Lady Spartans bounced back earlier this week with a nice win over Sand Springs. For PC North, the Lady Panthers are looking to show that they belong with 6A’s elite teams. A win over Bixby would certainly help that cause.
4PM – #3 Union (6-0) VS #15 Putnam City West (3-4)
– In a rematch of last year’s PCI title game, defending champ Putnam City West will square off with Union. PC West has struggled out of the gate against tough competition while Union has been dominant. Union hasn’t had a game decided by single digits and is coming off a 57-28 win over Owasso earlier this week. Meanwhile, the Lady Patriots have won back to back games, including a 77-23 drubbing of Enid on Tuesday.
7PM – #1 Classen (3-0) VS #18 Edmond Santa Fe (1-4)
– The final game of the night has Classen facing Edmond Santa Fe to wrap up the first round of games. Classen comes into the tournament perhaps as the best team in the field but the most inexperienced this season with just three games under their belt. They did get back on the floor earlier this week when they beat Star Spencer 103-20. Edmond Santa Fe comes limping in on a three-game skid and lost to Moore earlier this week.
