Fresh off an extended hiatus from game-action, teams took to the hardwood to show off their improved skills and new additions on both ends of the floor.
Eagle Grove at West Bend-Mallard
It has been a great start to the year for West Bend-Mallard, and it continued through the new year with a convincing win over Eagle Grove, 57-35.
Monika Fehr Monika Fehr 6'1" | C West Bend-Mallard | 2021 State IA paced a balanced attack with 14 points and 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards. Kayla Hoskins reached double digits with 12 thanks to three 3-pointers, and Rachel Fehr added nine with five steals, five assists and four boards.
Hannah Sampson and Ariane Lyman each scored 11 for the Eagles.
St. Edmond at Webster City
Following a winless season a year ago, St. Edmond broke into the victory column with a 30-29 triumph at Webster City for the first win under new head coach CJ Tracy.
Leah Neverman had eight points, 11 rebounds and two blocks, continuing to show her inside presence is one to not mess with in the North Central Conference. Kierstin Clark scored six, all of which came in the fourth when the Gaels were able to hold off the Lynx.
Livia Kasch, a sophomore, had 10 rebounds and three steals for Webster City with both Leah Kasch and Kelly Stoakes Kelly Stoakes 5'5" | PG Webster City | 2022 State IA scoring 11 points.
Humboldt at Belmond-Klemme
Stepping out of league play, Humboldt had no problems with Belmond-Klemme, 64-33. Jori Hajek, Bae Arnold and Kendal Clark combined for 43 points with Arnold hitting five 3-pointers.
Clark had a double-double, grabbing 12 rebounds with Hajek dealing out five assists.
Addison McMurray Addison McMurray 5'6" | SG Belmond-Klemme | 2021 State IA shined for the Broncos with 15 points and Molly Hartwig had 10 rebounds and four steals.
Webster City at Greene County
Playing a second consecutive night, the Webster City offense came alive in a 53-18 victory over Greene County.
Leah Kasch, Jenna Miller and Kelly Stoakes Kelly Stoakes 5'5" | PG Webster City | 2022 State IA hit a combined five triples with Kasch scoring 16. Miller added 13 and Stoakes 12. Kasch also had six rebounds and Stoakes four assists.
South Central Calhoun at OABCIG
After falling behind, South Central Calhoun came out with a bang in the second half to top OABCIG, 56-45. The Titans scored 37 points in the final 16 minutes after being held to 19 in the opening half.
Kylee Schleisman Kylee Schleisman 5'4" | PG South Central Calhoun | 2023 State IA scored 14, Riley Batta Riley Batta 5'10" | PF South Central Calhoun | 2023 State IA 12 and Brielle Korleski Brielle Korleski 5'6" | SG South Central Calhoun | 2021 State IA grabbed six rebounds to off-set a 20-point performance by OABCIG’s Carly Murphy.
Ames at Fort Dodge
The star power of Ames came out with a vengeance in the second half, as the Little Cyclones pulled out a 55-51 decision over Fort Dodge.
Caroline Waite Caroline Waite 5'3" | PG Ames | 2021 State IA had 28 and Ashley Iiams Ashley Iiams 6'1" | PF Ames | 2021 State IA scored 19 with 16 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Ames used an 18-6 third-quarter to overcome a six-point deficit.
For the Dodgers, Tory Bennett was 10-for-16 from the field for 25 points along with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Jalen Adams added eight points and Aleaha Pommer seven.
