Prep Girls Hoops has been searching up and down the state to find the best talent and that continues in this article as PGH profiles the top forwards in the B South region of the Shore Conference.
Destiny Adams Destiny Adams 6'3" | SF Manchester | 2021 State #26 Nation NJ , Manchester Township: Adams is one of the players to watch, not only in the entire Shore Conference, but in the entire state, and had an incredible junior season for a Manchester Township team that went 28-4. She averaged 18.1 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 1.8 APG, 2.4 BPG and 2.5 SPG. She is a complete player, an all-around playmaker and a dominant force on the court. Adams, while being an incredible scorer, almost effortless when watching her, is just as good if not better on the defensive end and in the battle of the boards. She makes her presence felt down low and in 2021, she has 20.0 PPG, 14.0 RPG potential.
Keira Muynan, Point Pleasant Boro: Muynan is part of a strong junior class that is really up-and-coming with Point Pleasant Boro, but will be helping to carry this team in 2021, coming off of an 11-15 season in 2019-20. She will be a much bigger piece this season with forward Kate Leturgez graduating last spring. Muynan is that missing piece, coming off a season where she averaged just under 4.1 RPG and 0.5 BPG. She wasn’t as much of a scorer as she was a rebounder, but her scoring and rebounding averages are going to skyrocket this season as she is expected to feature much more frequently as a starter.
Ariana Broughton, Jackson Liberty: Broughton is a name to write down and keep tabs on for the next few years as she already showed just how dominant she can be as a freshman for Jackson Liberty. In the 2019-20 season, she averaged 8.3 PPG and 10.1 RPG, along with 1.3 SPG. She returns as the Lions’ leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, but having nearly averaged a double-double as a freshman, that is well in the cards for 2021. Broughton is as dominant as they come and has shown a high level of maturity. Having that already as a sophomore is going to catapult her into the state and potentially national spotlight.
Cara McCoy, Barnegat: McCoy is going to be another younger forward that many will talk about, having shown out in her freshman season for Barnegat. She averaged just under 6.0 PPG and 7.1 RPG as a freshman and showed that she could shoot from the outside while also dominating on the inside. The Bengals struggled during the 2019-20 season, going 8-17, but Barnegat returns its entire roster for 2021 and McCoy will be one of a three-headed monster that will be a major catalyst for this team’s success now and in the coming years.
Maddie Bell, Lacey: Bell should be getting an increase in playing time in 2021, going into her junior season for Lacey. The Lions had quite a thin roster during the 2019-20 season, featuring only nine players, but Bell showed that she should be the featured player in Lacey’s front-court, averaging 2.7 PPG, 3.1 RPG and 0.6 BPG. Those numbers aren’t eye-popping, but with two years left in her high school career, you’re going to see Bell make some big strides in her game this season, developing more as a shooter and realizing how good of a defensive player she can be. Expect her to double or even triple last year’s statlines in 2021.
