Be on the lookout for the Prep Girls Hoops rankings to be updated throughout the month of January.
High School season is in full swing and our staff has been out about watching practices, games and catching events on live streams as well as watching highlight tapes. Last year, the final Rankings for the 2020 class finished with Caitlin McGee Caitlin McGee 6'0" | CG Sandalwood | 2020 State FL finishing as the state’s top prospect. The 6’1 Wing/Forward from Jacksonville, FL graduated early from Sandalwood High School and enrolled early at Ole Miss in the spring of 2020. The two-sport athlete (basketball and track & field) averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game in her high school career.
Currently, the Prep Girls rankings has the classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023 live. You can find the rankings HERE:
The 2021 class currently has 100 ranked players with O’Mariah Gordon O’Mariah Gordon 5'6" | PG Braden River | 2021 State #27 Nation FL (Braden River) sitting at the top at the number one spot followed by Jasmyne Roberts Jasmyne Roberts 5'10" | CG Bishop Kenny | 2021 State FL (Bishop Kenny), Kayla Blackshear Kayla Blackshear 6'1" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2021 State #61 Nation FL (Lake Highland Prep), Chaniya Clark Chaniya Clark 6'2" | PF Fort Myers | 2021 State #96 Nation FL (Fort Myers), and Kendal Cheesman Kendal Cheesman 6'2" | PF HB Plant | 2021 State FL (Plant) rounding out the top 5. Look for the class of 2021 to have a major increase in the number of players ranked. Will anyone move to number one spot over Gordon? Who were the classes biggest stock risers? Who is currently unranked that was overlooked or has had good showings in the last 6 months?
The 2022 class currently has 75 ranked players with Janiah Barker Janiah Barker 6'2" | SF Montverde Academy | 2022 State #3 Nation FL (Tampa Bay Tech) at the # 1 spot followed by Nyla Harris Nyla Harris 6'2" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State #34 Nation FL (Lake Highland Prep), Savannah Henderson Savannah Henderson 6'1" | SF Timber Creek | 2022 State #46 Nation FL (Timber Creek), Tonie Morgan Tonie Morgan 5'9" | PG FSUHS | 2022 State #18 Nation FL (Florida State), and Kailyn Gilbert Kailyn Gilbert 5'8" | CG IMG Academy | 2022 State FL (Seffner Christian) rounding out the top 5. While non of the top five players are committed, the class has seen several early commitments with Savannah Henderson Savannah Henderson 6'1" | SF Timber Creek | 2022 State #46 Nation FL (Timber Creek), Jordana Codio Jordana Codio 6'1" | SF Montverde Academy | 2022 State FL (American Heritage Delray), Addison Potts Addison Potts 6'0" | CG South Fort Myers | 2022 State FL (Seffner Christian), Aly Avrach Aly Avrach 5'8" | CG Spanish River | 2022 State FL (Spanish River), and Stefanie Ingram Stefanie Ingram 5'7" | CG Lake Highland | 2022 State FL (Lake Highland Prep) all making early decisions by verbally committing.
The 2023 class currently has 50 ranked players with Emma Risch Emma Risch 6'2" | PG Palm Bay | 2023 State #23 Nation FL (Palm Bay) at the # 1 spot followed by Taliah Scott Taliah Scott 5'8" | SG St. John's Country Day | 2023 State #31 Nation FL (Oakleaf), Kailani Lindsey Kailani Lindsey 6'1" | PF Wildwood | 2023 State FL (Wildwood), Jada Jones Jada Jones 6'4" | PF Sandalwood | 2023 State FL (Sandalwood), and D’Yanis Jimenez D’Yanis Jimenez 5'9" | PG Charlotte | 2023 State FL (Charlotte) rounding out the top 5. Three of the classes top five players (Risch, Scott, and Jimenez) are at new schools after transferring between their Freshman and Sophomore year. The class is loaded with talent and is very deep that should see a number of players have opportunities to continue playing at the collegiate level.
