Continue ReadingThe road to the state tournament begins Thursday, February 25, with Class 1A sub-state games. Official seeding will be released by KSHSAA the day before. A basic overview of the 1A-3A post-season structure can be reviewed in the first article covering the Attica and Axtell sub-states. Suffice to say the structure of the road to the state tournament is vastly different in year’s past due to impacts from the Covid-19 pandemic.
This post is the third of four to look at the players of the 1A-DII regionals. The second post previewed the Dighton and Moscow sub-states. Four more will also cover players of the 1A-DI regionals as well. The current standings for the Peabody-Burns and Golden Plains sub-states are as follows:

Peabody-Burns Sub-state
Elyria Christian has had a fantastic season with their only losses coming against very good Moundridge, Berean Christian, and Little River teams. Unfortunately it is going to end as they will run into the favorite to win all the marbles, #1 ranked Central Plains. Elyria will reach the finals relatively easily, having already beaten Centre and Burrton by double figures. Central Plains’s only losses have been to 3As Phillipsburg, who has been ranked all season, and Hesston and to 2A #1 Sterling
My pick: Elyria Christian will play gamely but they do not have the firepower to stay with Central Plains. Central Plains by 25.
Golden Plains Sub-state
The #2 ranked Golden Plains Bulldogs have won every game but three by more than 10 points, including a 22 point win over St. Francis and 40+ point wins over Cheylin and Logan/Palco. St. Francis is the only team with a shot to upset the Bulldogs.
My pick: Golden Plains will be too much and will roll by another 20+ point win.
