Continue ReadingWe continue our class ranking updates as we move to the Sophomores. This 2023 class is absolutely loaded with talent and may be the strongest class we have in the state at this time. There are several players holding D1 offers and the top end of the class could end up as high major D1 level recruits. Here’s a look at the newly updated top 10 in 2023.
Haven Ford Haven Ford 5'5" | CG Rowan County | 2023 State KY , Rowan County – One of the best scorers in the state, Ford remains atop our list in this update. Haven’s numbers are still impressive even though her shooting percentages are down this season. She’s putting up 25 and 12 every night out and has a chance to be one of the highest scorers in Kentucky history if she stays on track for the next 2 and a half seasons.
Timberlynn Yeast Timberlynn Yeast 5'8" | SF Mercer County | 2023 State KY , Mercer County – Timberlynn continues to be one of the best scorers in this class and has been for a couple of years now. She still has to improve her shooting as she is at less than 30% from three and 58% from the free throw line but there are not many better slashing wings in the state than Timberlynn.
Triniti Ralston Triniti Ralston 5'7" | PG Sacred Heart | 2023 State KY , Sacred Heart – Ralston is skilled and explosive with the ball in her hands. She can play on or off the ball but regardless of where she is on the court, she can put her head down and get to the rim or create open looks for her teammates. If she can improve her three point shooting, she’ll make a push for top overall player in the class.
Whitney Lind Whitney Lind 6'1" | PF Cooper | 2023 State KY , Cooper – Whitney is a versatile forward and one of the top players in Northern Kentucky. To reach her ceiling as a prospect, Lind has to keep improving her three point shooting as right now her offensive package is missing that part of the game. Whitney has to be one of the best in the state at getting to the free throw line and she shoots nearly 80% when she gets there.
Brianna Byars Brianna Byars 5'11" | PF George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY , George Rogers Clark – Byars and Lind are a whole lot alike and not much separates them in these rankings. Brianna has a high upside thanks to good athleticism but she does need to keep improving her perimeter skills to reach her ultimate ceiling as a prospect. If she keeps improving her overall skill set, Byars could be in the mix for best prospect in the class.
Xaviara Smalley Xaviara Smalley 6'3" | C Bethlehem | 2023 State KY , Bethlehem – A true back to the basket post player, Smalley is still settling in at Bethlehem after transferring in last year. She’s big and physical but needs to be a more active rebounder as her game develops. Xaviara should get more touches as her role expands this season but there aren’t many more efficient scorers in Kentucky than her.
Abby Holtman Abby Holtman 5'11" | SF Ryle | 2023 State KY , Ryle – Abby continues her ascent towards being the best prospect in Northern Kentucky. The scoring wing is a complete player and among the top shooters in the class. Primarily a catch and shoot player now, Holtman will increase her college stock as she becomes better at attacking the basket and finishing through traffic.
Macy Runner Macy Runner 5'6" | PG Nelson County | 2023 State KY , Nelson County – Macy is among the most valuable players in the state to her team as she has to do most of the heavy lifting for Nelson County to be competitive. It’s not that often that Runner gets to only be single covered by defenses and she still manages to average almost 17 points per game with 44% shooting from the field while having every defense geared towards stopping her.
Jakayla Thompson Jakayla Thompson 5'9" | CG DuPont Manual | 2023 State KY , DuPont Manual – Thompson has hit a bit of a sophomore slump to start this season but sometimes you just miss shots. Her skill level is still very high and her motor doesn’t quit running. Playing at Manual can be harmful for individual shine because the roster is so loaded with talent but look for Thompson to get back to her old self soon.
Destiny Thomas Destiny Thomas 5'10" | SF McCracken County | 2023 State KY , McCracken County – Destiny fell from the top4 after missing the season with an ACL tear. She should be back to 100% in the next few months and look forward to her getting back to her old self soon.
