#5| 2023 6-1 G Qadence – Bishop McNamara
The Bishop McNamara Mustangs are off to a scorching hot start to the 2021 season and they are currently riding a four game winning streak. This tear of winning can be in large part credited to their talented backcourt where sophomore Qadence Samuels Qadence Samuels 6'2" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2023 State MD has shown flashes of brilliance. Her long reach makes her a terror on defense and not to mention her ability to facilitate and score the basketball. Her shooting technique is some of the best for her age no doubt and her long build makes it even easier for her to find the open look. Her lack of experience is slowly going out the window and by 2023 Qadence will no doubt be a highly sought after collegiate level player.
#4| 2023 6-2 G Sahnya Jah Sahnya Jah 6'1" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2023 #50 Nation FL – Bishop McNamara
Another integral part of Bishop McNamara’s high powered backcourt is sophomore guard Sahnya. Sahnya, featured as the image headliner for this article, is extremely athletic and she even grew up playing football wide receiver. Therefore, it’s no surprise that she has impeccable rebounding talent and a strong tenacity for the basketball. She was also already named one of the most outstanding players at a DMV top 100 event she participated in last year. “The basketball was the first ball I ever touched”, said Jah after the DMV top 100 event when asked about her youth. It is now an absolute fact that the future of Bishop McNamara basketball is extremely bright, and they’ll look to extend their winning streak when their game against Paul VI is rescheduled, as it was recently canceled due to COVID19.
#3| 2023 5-11 C Charli Cannon – Rosedale Baptist
If you’re looking for consistency in the paint then Charli is who to call. While she’s averaging a half double-double now, there’s no doubt that by the 2023 season she’ll easily be averaging a double-double. As her high school campaign progresses, Charli will also clear six feet tall and possibly even exceed it by a large number which will only add to her versatility. This season in particular, Charli has huge upside and she’s active on a Rosedale Baptist squad that has managed to stay healthy during the pandemic and post a 15-3 record.
#2| 2024 6-2 SF Aubree Murray – Frederick
Aubree is arguably the most exciting young prospect in the entire state of Maryland right now and her numbers truly speak for themselves. On February 7th when her Frederick squad played against Urbana High School, Aubree was the player of the game and she posted a near triple double (8 blks, 8 pts, 10 rbs) as Frederick dismantled Urbana 81-32. Her high school’s athletic website reports that her mark of eight blocks broke a Frederick high school record that was set back in 1998. Aubree and the Frederick Cadets squad will look to extend a three game winning streak in their next contest.
#1| 2024 6-1 PF Laura Williams Laura Williams 6'2" | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA – Paul VI
The final player to breakout in 2021 and beyond is Laura Williams Laura Williams 6'2" | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA of Paul VI. Now, it must be recognized that while Paul VI is in Virginia, the school belongs to the WCAC (Washington Catholic Athletic Conference) which is comprised of schools from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. which makes Laura a viable candidate to be recruited in the Maryland area. As a freshman, she is already proving that she can handle herself amongst the DMV’s best competition. Laura showcased her rebounding talent and strong basketball intelligence against St. John’s two weeks ago which made her a crucial part of Paul VI’s 68-66 victory. PVI remains undefeated this year and that is in large part due to Williams and the incredible overall depth of the Panthers’ roster. It’s safe to say that scouts should already be keeping a keen eye on Laura as she inevitably continues to grow and develop into an elite college player.
