With a berth in the 3A Lower State final up for grabs, Bishop England defeated its visitors from Camden with the final score being 47-39.
The victory sends the Bishops into a contest with Orangeburg-Wilkinson to determine a spot in next week's 3A championship game at USC-Aiken.
“I think our girls played a real good game. Camden's got one heck of a team – we knew that coming in,” Bishops coach Paul Runey said.
Prep Girls Hoops was on hand at Bishop England High School for Thursday's big game. Here is a look at who came through for their respective teams.
[player_tooltip player_id="171798" first="Joyce" last="Edwards"] – 2024 – Camden High School – The difference in which team either won or lost Thursday's matchup was going to be No. 12 for Camden. Runey mentioned that he hoped his Bishops defense would manage to keep Edwards in check while a key to many of coach Jeffcoat's wins for the Bulldogs this year was getting her established. Of course, at 6-foot-2, she is a threat to score in the low post, but she is not afraid to handle the ball and go from one end of the floor to the other. Edwards also had some big time rejected shots in the third quarter, a frame where defense ruled the roost for much of it. While she did foul out in the fourth quarter, she led all point-getters with 15. Edwards is rated as the #1 player in the Palmetto State 2024 Class.
[player_tooltip player_id="207410" first="Ally" last="Dominiak"] – 2022 – Bishop England High School – She was Ms. Clutch for the Bishops. Late in what was very much a winnable game for either team, Dominiak came through with clutch baskets either from the floor or from the free throw line. Her value, of course, is not limited to how potent a scorer she is as she also will collect rebounds, go all out for loose balls and will play tough on defense. Dominiak will take care of the ball as well and she led her team scoring-wise with 12. Out of those 12, eight of her points occurred in the second half.
[player_tooltip player_id="171806" first="Zyasia" last="Carter"] – 2024 -Camden High School – With all of the young talent that the Bulldogs field, Camden will be a team to watch in coming seasons. Carter figures to be a part of that young nucleus. In addition to her potency as a scorer, Carter is a great passer and will put teammates into position to score with how she dishes out the ball. On defense, she will force turnovers from the other team and emphasizes hustle with how she goes after loose balls. She scored eight points and she also came up big in the second half with seven of those eight.
[player_tooltip player_id="262009" first="Ella" last="Schar"] – 2022 – Bishop England High School – Schar thrives on the indoor court at Bishop England as she not only plays basketball for the Bishops, but also is on their volleyball team. She knows how to hold serve at the net, whether that is in volleyball or basketball. The 5-foot-10 Schar scored the first points of the game off a pass from [player_tooltip player_id="258142" first="Princess" last="Scott"], another of the Bishops' bigs. She also hauled in rebounds, played effective defense and found herself at the line on six occasions – all in the fourth quarter. Schar only made two of those six, but scored 10 points.
[player_tooltip player_id="175325" first="Morgan" last="Champion"] – 2025 – Camden High School – Anyone with the word “champion” in their name as an athlete ought to be good, and this eighth grader for the Bulldogs displays a number of qualities showing exactly why she has a great upside. Champion provided productive minutes off the bench for the Bulldogs and an integral part of that was the work she did in the second half. She drew contact and got to the free throw line, a key that coaches love to see in young players in big spots. Champion will also distribute the ball and get steals as well. She scored seven points.

Lily Woods – 2021 – Bishop England High School – No. 23's skills will leave many teams in the woods. As a senior, she has at least one more game donning Bishops green. Woods can take care of the basketball and sets up an offense in the half court. She can drive to the rim and is fearless in doing so as she will find her way against a number of defenders. Woods also adds a 3-point dimension to the Bishops as she had two of the three made triples Bishop England converted for the game. She scored 10 points and made both of her free throw attempts (which came in the second quarter). Woods will be headed to Wofford next year to play tennis.
