Continue ReadingAs the regular season begins to wind down and tournament play is on the horizon, coaches and media members have cast their votes for Miss Tennessee for the 2020-2021 season. This most prestigious award nominates the best basketball players in the state in their different classifications. The girls listed have overcome great feats to become listed among some of the best around. These ballplayers truly have the “X” factor, as they have led their teams to victory. From draining 3s, slashing to the rim, playing lockdown defense, and controlling the boards, these girls have risen beyond expectations.
Here are the nominees for the 37th Miss Tennessee Basketball.
Division II-A Nominees
Jordaynia Ivie Jordaynia Ivie 5'9" | PG Lakeway Christian | 2021 State TN (Sr. Lakeway Christian)– This combo guard is a stat filler. She does it all for her basketball club. Jordaynia led her team averaging 15pts, 5 reb, 4 ast, and 3 steals a game. Jordaynia plays the game with high energy. She is all over the court doing the dirty things that can help lead her team to victory. From shooting 3s to hitting her mid-range jumper, she possesses a solid game offensively. Defensively, she gets her hands on the ball. From controlling the boards to poking balls lose, Ms. Ivie is an anchor for her Lakeway Christian ballclub.
Maggie Vick Maggie Vick 6'4" | PF Lakeway Christian Academy | 2021 State TN (Sr. Lakeway Christian)– The Iowa State commit got her 1,000 pts this season. She is really a force for her team in the paint. She controls the boards on both ends, has a nice mid-range shot, and is a humongous threat in the pick and roll game. She averages around 14ppg and 9 rpg. Defensively, she uses her 6’1 frame to create havoc in the paint. Along with Jordaynia, she has helped lead her Lady Lions to a district title. Look for her to help lead the way as her crew tries to capture the state title.
Olivia Lee Olivia Lee 5'11" | SG Jackson Trinity Christian Academy | 2023 State TN (So. Trinity Christian Academy)– This combo guard’s game is nice. She has a quick first step, can shoot the 3ball well, and she has a solid mid-range game. She possesses great court vision that allows her to get down to either finish at the rim or dish it to open teammates. She’s been a bucket for her team, averaging around 22pts a game. She doesn’t just contribute in the points column as she also averages 9rpg, 3apg, and 2 spg.
Division II-AA Nominees
Jaloni Cambridge Jaloni Cambridge 5'8" | PG Ensworth | 2024 State FL (Fr. Ensworth)– This highly-touted young lady is one of the best not only in the state but in the country. Jaloni has had an impressive freshman high school campaign. Averaging around 19pts per game, Jaloni is a bucket for her team. She is a dynamic player with the ball in her hands. What’s really incredible is how she possesses poise and is such a competitor. She has such a fluid game that power 5 schools are already offering this young talent. Jaloni is the heartbeat of this Ensworth ball club. Look for her to help lead her team towards state title contention.
Carmyn Harrison Carmyn Harrison 6'3" | PF Hutchison | 2021 State TN (Sr. Hutchison)– 6’3 with a long wingspan, Carmyn Harrison Carmyn Harrison 6'3" | PF Hutchison | 2021 State TN might pass the eye test as a center, but she is versatile. The Swiss -Army knife is a mismatch for opposing teams. Carmyn can do it all for her ball club. From starting fast breaks to slashing through gaps to get to the rim, she is multi-dimensional with the ball in her hands. Her long strides make it hard for opponents to guard her when she gets going downhill. This year, Carmyn is averaging around 11ppg, 8rpg, and 6apg. She is an enforcer both on both ends of the floor as she controls the boards well. Look for the Georgia Tech signee to finish her high school career strong.
Jaila Lee (Sr. , Brentwood Academy)– The St. Francis Brooklyn signee plays the game one way, with speed. She has such a quick first step that allows her to pull-up past her defender or get to the rim. She is a gym rat who has had success both during the High School level as well as on the UAA circuit with Team B. Wright. Averaging a little more than 14ppg, Jaila has great court vision that allows her to throw darts to her teammates. She contributes on the boards averaging close to 5 rebs a game. She’s a phenomenal defender, where she prides herself in locking down her opponent the full length of the court. Look for Jaila to help her Lady Eagles squad contend for another state title.
Class A Nominees
Madison Hart Madison Hart 5'10" | SF Dyer Gibson Co. | 2022 State TN (Jr., Gibson County)– This Gibson County standout is a catalyst for her team. Her long 5’10 frame allows her to create mismatches both on the offensive and the defensive end. Madison can shoot the ball with a high clip from all three levels, as she is averaging more than 22ppg. She consistently averaging close to 9 boards a game, which makes her a double-double threat any given night.
Kassie Monday Kassie Monday 5'1" | PG Clarkrange | 2021 State TN (Sr., Clarkrange)– The University of the Cumberlands commit is having a stellar senior year. Averaging around 17ppg and 5apg, Kassie is leaving an impressive legacy at Clarkrange. Kassie is a sharpshooter who shoots the ball deep from a high clip. She anticipates well on the defensive end, which leads to transition buckets for her team. She possesses great court vision and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
Karly Weathers Karly Weathers 5'11" | CG Loretto | 2022 State TN (Jr., Loretto)– Coming from a long line of big-time family athletes, The 5’10 combo guard is making a name for herself, picking up multiple D1 offers this season. Karly is a sharpshooter who shoots the ball at a high clip. She can dial it from deep, slash to the rim, and finish around the bucket. She is averaging close to 23 ppg, also bringing in 6 rpg. and 6 apg. Offensively she has a quick first step that allows her to get downhill. She has an incredible pull-up game from the mid-range. Defensively, she has quick hands that create turnovers, leading to transition buckets. Look for Karly to continue having an impressive HS career, which will lead to more D1 offers.
Class AA Nominees
Jalynn Gregory Jalynn Gregory 5'8" | PG Macon County | 2021 State TN (Sr. Macon County)– The MTSU signee loves the 3 ball. She shoots the ball at a high clip from deep, can put the ball on the floor to get to the rim, and has a nice mid-range game. Jalynn has a little flavor to her game as she will hit her opponents with the occasional step-back shot. She is averaging around 20ppg and 8apg. She can defend well and won’t hesitate to do the dirty things. She is the heartbeat for the Lady Tigerettes.
Jada Harrison Jada Harrison 5'8" | PG Martin Westview | 2023 State TN (So., Westview)– Easy going. Jada’s game is nothing but smooth. Her speed is deceptive and she will strike at a moment’s notice. She shoots the ball well from all three levels. She is averaging around 17ppg. She has active hands-on defense, which leads to turnovers and transition buckets. Her sophomore campaign has been nothing but stellar.
Reagan Hurst Reagan Hurst 5'9" | SG Upperman | 2021 State TN (Sr. Upperman)– The Lady Bees floor general is a Tennessee Tech signee. Reagan is a do it all for her program. She plays the game with poise, handles the ball outstanding, can slash through gaps, and shoot the ball at a high clip. One of her most underrated traits is that she can finish at the rim against contact. She is averaging around 19ppg, 4rpg, and 3apg. She has had an impressive HS career that has seen multiple state championships. She will be looking to add to that with a title run this year.
Class AAA Nominees
Denae Fritz Denae Fritz 6'0" | CG Maryville | 2021 State TN (Sr. Maryville)– The 5’10 combo guard signed to play her collegiate ball at Iowa State earlier this year. This Lady Rebel is a gamer. She has had an impressive senior season so far averaging a double-double with 20ppg and 10rpg. She is a fierce competitor who loves to compete night in and night out. She anticipates well and has a great feel for the game. She handles the ball with poise and can find teammates in the midst of chaos.
Acacia Hayes Acacia Hayes 5'7" | PG Riverdale | 2022 State TN (Jr., Riverdale)– One of the best girls around the country, Acacia is one dynamic player. She is the ultimate competitor as she stays in the gym to work on her craft regularly. She is very versatile and can change speeds in the blink of an eye. She shoots the ball at a high clip from all three levels, can penetrate through gaps to finish at the rim, and has a nice first step that leads into her mid-range shot. She is the catalyst for the Lady Warriors team averaging 21 ppg. She has multiple power 5 schools looking for her signature to play for them.
Tessa Miller Tessa Miller 6'1" | C Stone Memorial | 2021 State TN (Sr., Stone Memorial)– The 6’2 PF committed to Belmont University. The crown jewel of Crossville is averaging around 20ppg and 10rpg a game. She is an enforcer in the paint on the defensive end. Every night she plays, there will be a block party. She possesses great footwork block to block, has a nice mid-range game, and will step out and hit the occasional 3. Look for Tessa to help the Lady Panthers contend for postseason awards.
