Tennessee women’s basketball this year was awesome. Through the pandemic, the teams that were able to suit up, took advantage of the opportunity to ball out and leave everything on the court. We saw kids all across the state, make a name for themselves, while leading their prospective schools to victory. The girls showed why the state of Tennessee is one of the best basketball states around the country.
As teams move from District play to Region tournament, there were a ton of standouts that caught the eyes of scouts. Girls who laid it all on the line to help propel their team for another day. Some did come up short, but here PGH Tennessee commends your efforts. Here are some notable standouts who put their team on their back.
Sierra Steadman (Sr., Spring Hill)– The 6’1 combo guard was impressive during District play. Sierra is a heady player who is impressive with the ball in her hands. She sees the floor really well and can make split decisions on what to do with the ball. She has a great pull-up jumper. When the floor is stretched, she knows how to attack gaps and finish. She displayed shooting the ball consistently from all 3 levels. More importantly, she did the little things on D to help her team win. From diving on the floor for loose balls, to creating turnovers from double teams, she does all the hustle plays coaches love. She is truly the heartbeat of the Spring Hill Lady Raiders.
Jada Anthony Jada Anthony 5'6" | CG Cane Ridge | 2022 State TN (Jr. Cane Ridge)– The 5’9 combo guard is just now heating up. Metro schools only played a handful of games prior to their post-season tournament. Guess what? Jada has made sure you remember her name. With a limited body of work due to COVID, Jada has been tearing it up. She is a shifty guard who can get to the rim. She has a lot of control with the ball in her hands. Her handles are tight and low, which allows her to attack gaps quickly. She shoots the ball at a high clip from all 3 levels. You can tell she plays the game with a chip on her shoulder. Jada is a hustler who anticipates well. She is going to lock you up 94ft. Look for her to make some noise as her team advances in region play.
Alia Callum (Sr., PCA)– Coming off an injury can be tough, but this young lady has shown true heart throughout the season. Inspired by a trip to the Women’s Hall of Fame, Alia and her Lady Lions teammates went toe to toe with Lakeway Christian. Alia was all over the place. Creating turnovers for her teammates. From pickpocketing opponents to diving for loose balls, she helped create many turnover opportunities for her team. This PG is shifty and loves the mid-range game. She has the ability to shoot the 3, but her thing is defense and it was evident against Lakeway.
AC Markham AC Markham 6'0" | PF Providence Christian Academy | 2021 State TN (Sr., PCA)– This do it all wing player can be a handful. She can use her body and beat you down low, stretch the floor and dial it from deep, and can shoot the mid-range effortlessly. AC is scrappy on defense and possesses great footwork that enables her to match up with bigs or guards. The USC Upstate signee is leaving an impressive mark on this PCA girls basketball program.
Karli Haworth Karli Haworth 5'6" | PG Alcoa | 2023 State TN (So., Alcoa)– The District 4AA MVP has been on fire this postseason. Karli is a true floor general who is very talented. She loves to shoot the 3 ball, which she can do well from a catch and shoot position or in transition. She is scrappy on D, and has quick hands that enables her to get hands on ball. She makes exceptional passes that enables her teammates to shoot in rhythm. This has been a tough year for Karli due to sickness, but she has prevailed and bounced back stronger.
Savannah Davis (Fr., McKenzie)– This 5’9 kid thought she was going to be a “role player” for her team. Negative. She has had a stellar freshman campaign averaging 16 points a game. She is a weapon on the floor and teams must know where she is at all time. Savannah can shoot the ball at a high clip from all 3 levels. She can handle the ball well, defend well, and just flat out score the ball. She has been the spark for this McKenzie women’s basketball team.
