This years has been extremely tough to evaluate players due to the AIA season starting late and the limited ability to attend games…..nonetheless we have been tracking the 2022 class. Several players have seen their rankings improve due to stellar play during the abbreviated season. Here are some of the stock risers for this edition of the 2022 updated rankings.
(7) Mackenzie Shivers (5’7″, CG, Mesa) – Shivers moves up 3 spots as she has been dynamic this season with scoring, ball handling and defense. She is averaging over 15 points, 6 assists and 5 steals per game for the much improved Mesa Jackrabbits. Opposing teams have been trying to figure out ways to slow down the potent duo of Shivers and super soph Ashiian Hunter Ashiian Hunter 5'5" | PG Mesa | 2023 State AZ . Mesa is off to a 11-4 start. (12) Kamariah Hawkins Kamariah Hawkins 5'11" | SF Yuma | 2022 State AZ (5’11″, SF, Yuma) – Hawkins is 3rd in the country in rebounding with a daunting 19.2 rebounds per game. She has 20+ rebounds in 10 of the 19 games this year for Yuma. In addition, her scoring average is nearly 18 points (4th amongst juniors in the state) combined with 7.4 steals (1st amongst juniors in the state) per outing. Hawkins missed last year due to AIA transfer rules so some avid basketball followers are just hearing about this ultra talented player. Previous Ranking 34
(18) Nicole Evenson Nicole Evenson 5'11" | CG Gilbert | 2022 State AZ (5’11″, CG, Gilbert) – Evenson is currently averaging 13.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for the much improved Gilbert Tigers. Her leadership and court savvy has been a big boost for a program that has a young core of talented players. Previous Ranking 23
(26) Kaisha Henry Kaisha Henry 5'9" | PF Verrado | 2022 State AZ (5’9″, PF, Verrado) – Henry leads the 12-1 Vipers squad in scoring (14.1 points) and rebounding (10.4 rebounds). She has been extremely active on both sides of the court. She came into high school with a lot of promise and it appears that Henry is finally starting to reach her potential. Verrado is one of the top teams in 5A and Henry has had a lot to do with the jump from last year. Previous Ranking 40
