Each of the top five prospects in the state are on track to play high major Division 1 basketball. The sophomores class is the most talented group of players we have seen in Washington since the highly touted class of 2020. This says a lot as the 2020 group claims two McDonald’s All Americans and several players that have gone on to have a lot of success in their freshman college seasons, including multiple playing High Major ball. While the appropriateness of the comparison remains to be determined, there is no question 2023 has next in the state of Washington! Below are the update top five prospects.
2023 Headliner:
6’6 F Olivia Anderson Olivia Anderson 6'6" | PF Ellensburg | 2023 State #37 Nation WA out of Ellensburg High School has undeniable potential from the forward position. She has grown a bit over the course of the last year and her overall game seems to improve every time she steps on the floor. Her recruitment has really picked up steam and will only continue to do so as she gets out and plays this Spring and Summer. SEC, ACC, Pac-12 and Ivy League schools are among those heavily involved with Anderson’s recruitment. *Feature image
Next Great Wing Prospect:
6’1 Imbie Jones Imbie Jones 6'2" | SF Garfield | 2023 State WA has made the move from Eastside Catholic High School to the Garfield Bulldogs. Jones projects really well as more of a guard/wing player with her continuously developing perimeter skill set. She has all the tools to be a great defender that can guard multiple positions. As Jones continues to grow and develop, she is only going to get better and be a fun player to track over the next couple years. The Pac-12 is on her heavy as well as some SEC schools among others.
Next Great PG Prospect:
Malia Samuels Malia Samuels 5'7" | PG Garfield | 2023 State #46 Nation WA “”Pitbull” stands 5’5 and her nickname is more than fitting. She is fast, strong, tough and all around tenacious when she plays the game of basketball. Samuels is very athletic, but plays a fundamentally sound game with a lot of stop and go change of pace moves. She can attack either direction equally as well and she can shoot it from the mid and long range. A bevy of High Major schools are reportedly recruiting her and rightfully so.
Next Great Shooter
Great shooters always find their way onto the floor and great shooters standing 6’1, well that’s just an added bonus. Jenna Villa Jenna Villa 6'1" | SF Arlington | 2023 State WA from Arlington High School has a sweet shooting stroke as the trailer, from the corner and in pick and pop situations. She really excels in catch and shoot scenarios and fits really well into the half court system or an uptempo system that will allow her to shoot threes in transition. She has length to also attack the basket when defenders run her off the line. Yet another player with High Major Division 1 type of talent.
Another Prospect With Size, Skill & Potential
6’1 combo guard Adria Lincoln Adria Lincoln 6'1" | SF Monroe | 2023 State WA is a player I have liked for some time with her size and offensive perimeter skill set. The Monroe High School standout is another player with really good tools to help a Division 1 program. Her exact position on the floor remains to be seen, but that speaks to her versatility as much as anything. Depending on the system and program, she could play the one, two or three at the college level. Lincoln has several schools that continue to track her progress.
