The Class of 2023 has a strong group of perimeter players, and currently our Top-150 is home to 32 2-guard prospects who make up 21.3% of all 2023 prospects ranked in Indiana. It is their job to attack the basket, score, and make shots around the perimeter, but several of them can also run offense when necessary. Below is a look at those 32 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis on a handful of girls who have stood out since our last rankings update in December.
Newcomer
Meghan Kiebel Meghan Kiebel 5'7" | SG Central Noble | 2023 IN , Central Noble H.S. – Our Spring rankings update isn’t a big time for new additions to the current Sophomore class, but while we didn’t expand from 150 prospects, I felt the need to add Meghan into one of the spots vacated by someone we moved off the list. She served as a nice role player as a Freshman, but she stepped into a starting/starring role as a Sophomore, nearly doubling her scoring. She looks stronger, more assertive, and she can score it at all three levels consistently.
Stock-Risers
Savanna Bischoff Savanna Bischoff 5'9" | SG Center Grove | 2023 State IN , Roncalli H.S. – Savanna is the younger sister of 2021 Indiana All-Star Madelyn Bischoff Madelyn Bischoff 5'10" | SG Roncalli | 2021 State IN . Savanna is a long, wiry strong, fluidly athletic kid who has always played with some feistiness in her game. But now she looks stronger, more explosive, and much more well-rounded skillfully.
Taylor Fordyce Taylor Fordyce 5'10" | SG Carroll (Fort Wayne) | 2023 State IN , Carroll H.S. (Fort Wayne) – I know I have raved about Taylor’s play in a couple of recent articles, but she has been so good it’s worth pointing her out again. She looks stronger, leaner, and more explosive in all directions. She is very skillful, plus she has a great motor and a nice basketball IQ.
Emily Mattingly Emily Mattingly 5'10" | SF Evansville Memorial | 2023 State IN , Evansville Memorial H.S. – Emily was the second leading scorer and shot 45% from 3-point range on the team that won the Hall of Fame Classic and started the year 13-0. She is strong, aggressive attacking the basket, plus she has a nice motor and is willing to play physical.
Cadence Thomas Cadence Thomas 5'8" | CG Decatur Central | 2023 IN , Decatur Central H.S. – Cadence has put together a strong start to the grassroots season, and she is playing with great confidence. She is a physical athlete with some length, and while she was probably more of a shooter a year ago, she has become a playmaker who can also run offense.
Tori Thompson Tori Thompson 5'7" | CG Lafayette Central Catholic | 2023 State IN , Lafayette Central Catholic H.S. – Tori is another kid who has done a nice job of transitioning from being more of a shooter to becoming a complete guard. She has a nice handle and playmaking ability, good length, and fluid athleticism. She is still a knockdown shooter from outside, though.
Keep an eye on…
Maci Chamberlin Maci Chamberlin 5'7" | SG Blue River Valley | 2023 State IN , Blue River Valley H.S. – Maci moved in from Winchester last Summer, and she made a huge difference for the Vikings. She is a fairly strong, smooth-shooting guard. She is a solid on-the-floor athlete, she plays with a motor, and when she does handle it, she has very good vision/awareness.
Asia Donald Asia Donald 5'9" | SG Hobart | 2023 State IN , Hobart H.S. – The state is still unfamiliar with Asia’s game, but she can really go. She’s one of those kids who I think once she’s able to play in front of Division-I coaches this July, she will see her recruiting take off. She is a wiry strong, explosive kid, with good quickness and playmaking ability.
Olivia Leas Olivia Leas 5'7" | SG Blackford | 2023 IN , Blackford H.S. – This lefty is a nice athlete who has led Blackford in scoring each of her first two seasons. She has a wiry strong frame, length, and she plays with a motor. Her jump-shot is consistent, and she shoots it with range. By playing this Spring/Summer, I think her game could really improve.
Hailey Smith Hailey Smith 5'10" | SG Fishers | 2023 State IN & Olivia Smith Olivia Smith 5'10" | SG Fishers | 2023 State IN , Fishers H.S. – The twins have been nothing but a menace to their high school opponents over the last two Winters. A few colleges have been to Fishers for workouts, but I think once they get into the July live periods, they’ll start drawing a lot more interest. Both of them are aggressive players with great toughness and defensive prowess. Hailey is probably more of a slasher/scorer, while Olivia is a little better on the ball right now.
