The Class of 2023 has a strong group of perimeter players, and currently our Top-150 is home to 34 point guard prospects who make up 22.7% of all 2023 prospects ranked in Indiana. It is their job to take care of the ball and initiate the offense, but several of them are also capable of scoring the ball at a high level. Below is a look at those 34 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis on a handful of girls who have stood out since our last rankings update in December.
Newcomer
Kaitlyn Shoemaker Kaitlyn Shoemaker 5'4" | PG Noblesville | 2023 State IN , Noblesville H.S. – Our Spring rankings update isn’t a big time for new additions to the current Sophomore class, but while we didn’t expand from 150 prospects, I felt the need to add Kaitlyn into one of the spots vacated by someone we moved off the list. She has served as a nice rotation player in the Millers’ backcourt, and she was outstanding when I saw her two weeks ago at the Shamrock Classic. She can handle it and run offense, she will knock down shots consistently outside, but she’s also a very quick, fast, and feisty player who can cause problems defensively.
Stock-Risers
Abby Fleetwood Abby Fleetwood 5'9" | PG Indian Creek | 2023 State IN , Brown County H.S. – Abby put together an outstanding year at Brown County, averaging 20.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 4.7 steals per game. Her completeness as a player gives her great value at the next level. She’s also gritty/tough-nosed, and she shoots it consistently outside.
Laney Hawkins Laney Hawkins 5'9" | CG Charlestown | 2023 State IN , Charlestown H.S. – I touched on Laney a bit after the Shamrock Classic, and I really like how she has gone from being a shooter to becoming a ball-handler who can shoot. She looks stronger, much more confident and aggressive to the basket, and she’s starting to appreciate the defensive end more.
RaShunda Jones RaShunda Jones 5'7" | PG South Bend Washington | 2023 State IN , South Bend Washington H.S. – RaShunda’s stock continues to rise month to month. She is so athletic and explosive, quick, fast, and dynamic off the bounce. She has greatly improved her jump-shot, she’s an elite defender, and she just gets in the gym and works at developing her skillset.
Molly Stock Molly Stock 5'7" | PG Homestead | 2023 State IN , Homestead H.S. – There are a lot of schools who really like Molly’s style of play, and it’s easy to see why. She has a quiet toughness to her, she has some quickness to her, but she is efficient with the ball, she gets it where it needs to go, plus she’s a nice perimeter shooter with any space and rhythm.
Madison Vice Madison Vice 5'5" | CG Central Noble | 2023 State IN , Central Noble H.S. – Last Summer/Fall I wasn’t sure what to think of Madison, but now she’s so much more aggressive, she’s playing with a lot of confidence, and she’s tough-nosed. She can handle it, get to the rim, or knock down shots outside, plus she’s a fairly quick/fast and feisty defender.
Keep an eye on…
Lauren Barker Lauren Barker 5'5" | CG Columbus North | 2023 State IN , Columbus North H.S. – Lauren is playing alongside several 2024s this grassroots season who are great perimeter shooters. Look for her to play a major role as a setup person on that team, but she should also see a number of driving lanes open up and be able to attack downhill and get layups often.
Olivia Brown Olivia Brown 5'7" | PG Hamilton Southeastern | 2023 State IN , Hamilton Southeastern H.S. – Olivia has always been a willing and capable facilitator and a high-level on-ball defender. This grassroots season she has a number of talented playmakers, shooters, and capable “bigs” around her, that she could thrive in this environment and add to her offer list.
Jocelyn Davis, Hamilton Southeastern H.S. – Jocelyn is diminutive, but she is an extremely quick, fast, and crafty little water-bug who does a nice job of taking care of the ball and finding open teammates. If she can make shots consistently, she could have a big Spring/Summer, because she’s surrounded by athletes.
Taylor Farris Taylor Farris 5'8" | CG Oxford Talawanda | 2023 State OH , Northeastern H.S. – Two Summers ago, Taylor was solid, but she was young and still figuring out her game. Last Summer/Fall, she was outstanding, but no coaches were able to see her live. If she can replicate her play from 2020, I look for her to see a lot of Division-I interest/offers come her way this July.
Sanaa Thomas Sanaa Thomas 5'5" | PG Warren Central | 2023 State IN , Warren Central H.S. – Sanaa is a strong, steady lead guard who does a tremendous job of taking care of the ball and finding teammates. She isn’t flashy, but she is talented and skilled. She can make shots outside, and she competes with the top-level prospects regularly. I think she’ll have a nice Summer.
