Where parents put miles on their cars, fast food places make tons of money, hotel lobbies are full to capacity, and all-star players team up to provide non-stop action throughout the spring and summer. This weekend, teams from all over the state start playing in non-live periods to get some games under their belts. Teams will be working out the kinks, as they get ready to gear up towards hitting their prospective circuits starting next month. This upcoming weekend, some teams will embark on Shelbyville, TN to play in the Showtime Shootout.
Though all squads across the state will not be at this event, there are still some talented teams and some phenomenal young ladies lacing them up this weekend. Here are some notable girls who will be ready to set the nets on fire come Friday evening in Shelbyville.
Brianna Burgess (So., Stars Basketball Club)– The 5’8 Creek Wood product is a lethal shooter from the arc. She can do it all for her squad as she can score it, dish it, rebound, and defend. Bri is an impeccable shooter who can catch n’ shoot with the best of them. From her PG position, she is a floor general who can command the offense. Look for her to get buckets this circuit season as she helps lead the Nashville Stars Premier sophomore team.
Kelsey Pike (So., TN Rush)– The 5’9 Oneida high product is dangerous with the ball in her hands. She has an amazing first step that allows her to attack downhill to either finish at the rim or unleash an incredible pull-up jumper. She sees the floor well and delivers passes on time to her teammates setting them up for easy buckets. Kelsey isn’t a one-trick pony, as she anticipates well on D, jumping passing lanes to create turnover opportunities. The TN Rush program is ready to go toe to toe with some heavy hitters with Kelsey leading the way.
Mallory Taylor (Jr., Memphis Elite)– Collierville has a gem in this 5’6 PG. Mallory has a heart of a lion, as she slashes through the defense on her way to the rim. She got her 1,000th point earlier this season, now she looks to take all her energy out on those wanting to compete with the Memphis Elite. Mallory is a talented guard who can shoot the ball at a high clip from all 3 levels. Look for her to take advantage of her last year on the circuit this season.
Savannah Davis (Fr. Alabama Southern Starz)– This 5’9 guard out of McKenzie High is ready to shine bright for her travel ball program. She had an amazing freshman year, where she helped lead McKenzie to the District Championship. She was named All-District & MVP as Freshman, which is an amazing feat in itself. Savannah can flat-out shoot the ball from multiple spots on the floor. She has a great first step, exceptional range from deep, and can finish at the rim with contact. She has great court awareness that allows her to take advantage of the defense’s weaknesses. Look for her to contribute to the success of the Alabama Southern Starz program this upcoming season.
RaNisha Gates ( Jr., TN Flight Trotters)– The 6’1 post player from Fulton High is a beast in the paint. She has amazing footwork that allows her to deploy multiple moves around the block. RaNisha has a nice mid-range game that compliments her ability around the rim. She uses her physicality to control the boards on both ends of the floor. She is an enforcer on defense, where she will send shots back to where they came from. Look for her to be a catalyst for the TN Flight Trotters program.
