In the COVID-19 2020 world we are living in, video and highlight films have become more and more prominent and important. We will be posting evaluations from the videos weekly. This month, we take a look at some of the new highlight videos that have been sent to us or posted in March.
2022 Xaimara Garcia Xaimara Garcia 5'7" | SG Wildwood | 2022 State FL (Wildwood High School) 5’7 Guard
Big, strong combo guard who can play both the PG and SG position. She uses her length well on defense and her strength well to finish at the rim vs contact. She is a good passer who has good court vision and is a selfless player who gives the ball up to the open player and leads her teammates for buckets. Helped lead her team to a 2020-21 FHSAA 1A District Championship. Video by @jmillercompany242
2023 Madelyn Leslie Madelyn Leslie 5'10" | SG Gulf Coast | 2023 State FL (Gulf Coast HS) 5’10 Wing
Leslie is a 5’10 Wing who can shoot lights out from 3! You cannot leave her open to shoot the catch and shoot 3 as she will knock it down at a high %! She really added to her game from her Freshman to Sophomore season becoming a more complete all around offensive player displaying her ability to put the ball to the floor and attack the rim, shoot off the dribble, as well as display her excellent passing skills and basketball IQ. Very active player who plays hard on both ends of the floor, moves well without the ball, goes to the offensive glass, and runs the floor in transition. Averaged 11.2 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 2.1 APG, 1.6 SPG with 46 Made 3-Pointers helping to lead her team to a 22-6 record, a district championship and an appearance in the FHSAA Class 7A Elite 8.
2022 Emari Lewis Emari Lewis 5'7" | CG Wesley Chapel | 2022 State FL (Wesley Chapel HS) 5’7 Guard
Athletic, slashing scoring guard who can play both the PG and SG position. Very aggressive attacking the rim and does a great job changing direction and changing speeds off the dribble. She has a smooth 3 point stroke and is very good pulling up from 3 off the dribble in transition and shooting the 3 off the step back.
2021 Leilani Thuraisingham (Coral Springs HS) 5’4 Guard
Thuraisingham is a deadly 3 point shooter who has a bit of unorthodox shooting form with a slight slingshot with a wide stance from. She keeps her game simple shooting the ball directly off the pass, putting the ball to the floor and shooting a 1 dribble pull up, or if she dribbles it twice she is typically shooting a floater! She helped lead Coral Springs HS to back-to-back district championships and is referred to as “Lights Out” by her teammates and coaches. Video by Basketball Ave
2023 Olivia Fuller (Clearwater HS) 5’11 Forward
Fuller had an impressive Sophomore campaign, helping lead Clearwater to a record setting season! It is hard to not full in love with Fuller’s energy and how hard she plays when you watch her. She is super active on both ends of the floor and always seems to be around the ball. Her athleticism, leaping ability, shot blocking and rebounding are definitely her four biggest strengths but she has done an excellent job continuing to develop her offensive skill set. Throughout the season, she displayed her improved ability to put the ball to the floor and 15-foot range. As they skills continue to develop and are matched with her energy, intensity and passion, Fuller will make mid major to BCS college coach very happy! Fuller’s best basketball is definitely ahead of her!
2026 Karolina Ramirez Karolina Ramirez 5'6" | PG The Benjamin | 2026 State FL (Anderson Middle School)
Ramirez is one of the state’s top young players! The young point guard is mature beyond her years with excellent handle and decision-making skills. Her overall game is one of the most well rounded I have seen for a young player as she can truly do it all on both ends of the floor. Ramirez’s handle and shooting ability are very impressive but probably the thing that stands out the most for a player of her age is her ability to use both hands as a dribbler and passer. While most young players are one hand dominant, she utilizes both hands interchangeable. Off the dribble she has good change of speed and change of direction and is a very good passer. I love her unselfish play in consistently giving the ball up to open players and to players in scoring positions. Karolina Ramirez Karolina Ramirez 5'6" | PG The Benjamin | 2026 State FL is a name you will be hearing a lot of for the next 6 years as she progresses from middle school to high school!
2025 Dianka Hardisson Dianka Hardisson 5'5" | PG Somerset Academy Silver Palms | 2025 State FL (Somserset Silver Palms) 5’5 Guard
Hardisson is an 8th grader who played varsity for Somserset Silver Palms. She is an athletic guard who is a dynamic playmaker who can score at three levels: from 3, mid-range, and at the rim. Everything she does, she does fast and explosively – she has a very quick release and a big time first step! You cannot leave her open as she shoots a very high % from 3 and you must slow her down in transition as she will take it coast to coast in a hurry! She is a young player who had a very impressive 8th grade year playing varsity for one of the top teams in Dade County and has a ton of potential!
2026 Ashley Martinez Ashley Martinez 5'4" | SG Somerset Silver Palms Academy | 2026 State FL (Somserset Silver Palms) 5’5 Guard
Martinez is part 2 of dynamic young back court mates at Somerset Silver Palms. While Somerset is led by 2021 Amari Hunter Amari Hunter 5'6" | CG Somerset Silver Palms | 2021 State FL and 2022 Amber Matteo, the future is bright for Somerset having Hardisson and Martinez play solid varsity minutes as 7th and 8th graders! Martinez is one of the state’s top shooters and is just a 7th grader. Her shooting is so deadly that she picked up a scholarship offer from University of South Florida Head Coach Jose Fernandez at their team camp when Martinez was just a 6th grader! Her game has continued to evolve showcasing her ability to put the ball to the floor to shoot the mid-range, finish at the rim, or create an easy bucket for her teammates. She has a very good shot fake as opposing defenses often run at her knowing they cannot let her shoot the 3!
