We will evaluate their games and we hope you will enjoy this edition of the Prep Girls Hoops rankings right before the high school season starts. With the pandemic plaguing all of the United States it is a much needed gesture for the CIFSS to allow the kids to play. These evaluations are credited to the collective of writers on this website.
2024, 5’2, PG, Fairmont Prep HS, Jazzy Mercado Jazzy Mercado 5'2" | PG Fairmont Prep HS | 2024 State CA – Mercado is a fun player to watch. She is very quick and her change of speed allows her to blow by defenders. One of her main strengths is her ability to finish at the rim. She can also lead the break and can run the lanes well in transition. On the defensive end, she gets into the passing lanes and hustles for loose balls.
2024, 5’5, CG, Mayfair HS, Syri Prevo Syri Prevo 5'5" | CG Lynwood HS | 2024 State CA – Prevo is a player I saw back in October where she competed hard against many players older than her. She’s a wing with high upside. She’s a very good ball-handler who dribbles under control and keeps her dribble low. Keeps her head up with the ball in her hands. She has the tools to be a solid scorer as well. Good one-on-one player who is only going to get better.
2024, 5’9, SF, Lawndale HS, Kimiko Kennedy Kimiko Kennedy 5'9" | SF Lawndale HS | 2024 State CA – A freshman, Kennedy is a wing with high upside. She’s got good length and height and has all the tools to be an effective defensive player. Offensively, she can catch and shoot from three-point range, or she can square up with the ball in her hands and shoot as well. Shoots it from the midrange off the dribble. She can also handle the ball on the break and go all the way to the rim. Can finish through contact.
2024, 5’8, SF, Edison HS (Fresno), Sariah Potts Sariah Potts 5'8" | SF Edison HS Fresno | 2024 State CA – Potts does well moving without the ball. She makes good cuts and dives around the rim and she can get out in transition. She has good court awareness and looks to make the right play and extra pass. She’s a pretty solid ballhandler and she does well against defensive pressure; keeps her composure. She’s a pretty good defensive player too when it comes to reading passing lanes and starting the break.
2024, 5’9, CG, Westlake HS, Lindsay Gould Lindsay Gould 5'9" | CG Oak Park | 2024 State CA – Gould will be making her high school debut this season as a freshman. There are a couple of things that stand out about her. One is that she’s got a solid jump shot with range all the way out the three-point and a very quick release. Another is her court vision, She has a solid feel for the game and has good instincts as a playmaker. She sees the floor and looks to get teammates easy shots. A bit of a combo guard.
