The field has some really nice teams in each age group, there have been a few competitive games from the jump, and below are five young ladies who I thought played well when I was able to see them earlier this evening.

Alaysha is a talented scorer who has put up huge numbers at Boonville over the last three seasons. She is quick, strong, and she has done a really nice job over the years of building her skillset to where she can be a traditional point guard at times or a wing scorer. Tonight she was the latter, burying shot after shot from all over the floor. In one stretch, she made 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions. I think she can be a really nice small college combo guard who can affect the game in many different ways.

This is my second consecutive weekend watching Dara, and she is a really nice talent who has come to the small prep school in LaPorte, Indiana, by way of the Detroit suburbs. She has great length, she’s a smooth, fluid athlete, and she is just a playmaker. She can run and jump, she can handle the ball like a point forward and create, plus she’ll slash inside for scores and rebound willingly against bigger opponents. I also think she has the potential to be a high-level defender because of her ability and versatility.

I can remember back to watching Taylor when she was a Freshman. She isn’t much bigger now, but her game has come a long way, and she is much more patient and lets things come to her. Her combination of speed and quickness, along with her improved efficiency and ability to sense tone a lot better, make her a tough matchup for opposing teams. She can get into gaps and create offense, she scores it reasonably well at all three levels herself, plus she can be a gnat on the ball defensively at times.

Taylor is a really nice “sleeper” who I think college coaches will learn about this Spring & Summer. She has an athletic frame, nice length, she’s wiry strong, and she can run and jump with most prospects her age. She has a great motor and battles at both ends of the floor, and this Spring (as opposed to last Fall) she looks like she has really tightened her all-around skillset. She handled, passed, and shot the ball much better this evening, and I think as she continues to work on her game, she’ll rise up our lists.

Abby is one of those kids I don’t get to see during the Winter, but I’ve now seen her for three consecutive grassroots seasons, and she is one I really enjoy watching. This Spring, she looks a little taller, leaner, and quicker. She has tremendous length, and she can get her hands in the passing lanes defensively, causing deflections/steals. But I also really like her balance between being a traditional point guard and being able to shoot/score the ball, like she has to do for her high school. She is just a nice ballplayer.
