Prep Girls Hoops was in attendance as well to take in the festivities and observe many of the Palmetto State’s rising talents. Here is a look at who displayed plenty of agility and speed.
Mikayla Grable – 2027 – Carolina Future Dream – Many an onlooker may look at her and the first thing that would come to mind is “undersized.” There are two things to remember – she is only in the sixth grade and height does not always tell the whole story. Grable displayed a variety of talents in Lexington – include a tenacity to drive to the basket against taller defenders. She managed to get out in transition with a great deal of speed and never had any shortage of hustle. In case she may have mishandled the ball, it would not be long before Grable managed to recover. Plenty of heart displayed by the sixth grader.
Samiyah Hicks – 2025 – iDreams – Another who can get up and down the floor quickly. And Hicks did so with plenty of height, considered to be an unconventional mix by basketball standards. In iDreams’ game they played against Lexington Hoopsters MG Elite, she was in their starting five and Hicks also provided a stout defensive presence in the interior along with making efficient passes in the open floor. Hicks’ skill as a ball carrier only added to her overall versatility as a player.
Da’sani Kinlaw Da’sani Kinlaw 5'4" | PG Timberland | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Team USC – Team USC has one of the more impressive showings of the Saturday of the tournament when it scratched and clawed its way to a 38-37 win over Georgia-based Lady T.R.U. and Kinlaw was part of that effort. Listed at 5-foot-4, her athleticism allows her to show up at any area of the floor possible to make plays. She excels on defense, can shoot from long range and has an ability to find herself at the right place and right time on the court. Kinlaw particulary displays her speed and agility when in traffic and weaving her way through defenders. She also helped Team USC’s rebounding efforts and can receive long passes while enabling her ball handling skills to make plays.
She recently completed her freshman season with Timberland High School.
Aneya Britt – 2027 – Lexington Hoopsters 7th – Britt was an integral element into what was a dominant 38-14 victory Lexington Hoopsters picked up on the Saturday morning of the event when they faced iDreams. Britt displayed a fearlessness in going at a number of defenders in an effort to put points on the board. On a number of those occasions, she managed to finish strong at the cup. She will also defend near the baseline off a missed free throw and will put in work on the glass. Where her hustle is really put on display is when she sees a ball close to going out of bounds and will save said ball to ensure her teams keeps possession. Britt will also block shots and attract contact to put her at the free throw line. Any team that has her on it has someone who brings plenty of energy to a team.
