Hosted by Carolina Pistons, kids from a wide variety of age groups were represented as third graders all the way up to the varsity level were all in attendance for what was an exciting day of basketball.
We at Prep Girls Hoops were in attendance as well to take in the festivities and observe many of the Palmetto State’s rising talents. Shooters shoot and here is who did just that.
Abby Livingston – 2027 – Lexington Hoopsters – Livingston balled out in Lexington. The Lexington Hoopsters seventh graders finished its home county tournament with three wins and only one loss with Livingston being a key reason for that success. She displayed point guard skills in bringing the ball up the floor to set up her team in the half court offense. Livingston also managed to take (and make) 3-point shots. She knows how to put the ball through the hoop – whether it is from 3-point range or with her midrange game.
Braidi Goodrich – 2027 – Lexington Hoopsters – Goodrich is another who is listed on the rosters of multiple Lexington Hoopsters teams as she plays for the sixth and seventh grade teams. Goodrich was one of the starters for the sixth grade team’s matchup with LMR to open Saturday’s slate of games. She shined on the defensive side of the ball and was not afraid to take shots from long range. Goodrich also showcased her skills in taking care of the basketball along with her ability to get to the line for foul shots after being fouled.
Ayana Moses – 2026 – Palmetto Stampede – AM or PM, Moses is ready to get on the court and make plays for her team. With how she manages to handle the basketball and not allow for her to turn the ball over, she can create her own shot in addition to finding open teammates. Moses’ adeptness in handling the ball also enables her to draw in contact and get her to the free throw line. She is skilled at getting out in the open floor and receiving passes in transition that can turn into easy layups. If Moses has an open 3-point opportunity, there is a chance she will take that trey. She will also take on the role of floor general and set up her team in the half court offense in traditional point guard style.
Mattie Kellett – 2026 – Carolina Future Dream – Mmmkay, so you are a coach that has an eye for forward play. That eye – as well as the eyes of many South Carolina basketball fans will be on Kellett in the coming years. Kellett is tall with a long wingspan to boot. Even with that, she will attempt a 3-point shot on an occasion or so. She will also give her team a boost by getting into situations where she will be at the line for free throw attempts. Kellett also gets herself in position for not only herself to make shots, but for her teammates to find her on the floor so said shots can be attempted.
