The event is loaded with talented players across the board, and I expect we’ll see some big-time performances throughout day two. Here are some players that deserve recognition after the first day of games:
2022 Emily Galvan Emily Galvan 5'7" | PG Rolling Meadows | 2022 State IL , 5’7” Guard, Illinois Rockets
A high-scoring Point Guard with an impressive skill set on offense, Galvan was excellent on Day 1 in helping lead her team to an opening round win. Emily is a reliable leader and ball-handler who can score the ball at all levels, especially from deep with a consistent shot from beyond the three-point line.
2022 Nyla Walker Nyla Walker 5'6" | PG Example Academy | 2022 State IL , 5’6” Guard, Example Sports
Walker is an energetic Combo Guard who provides a spark on both sides of the ball anytime she’s on the court. Nyla is shifty with the ball in her hands and uses creative moves to get herself open and knock down shots off the bounce.
2023 Kree Nunnally Kree Nunnally 5'10" | SF Example Academy | 2023 State IL , 5’11” Forward, Illinois Elite
After a pair of 15+ point performances on day one, its easy to see why Nunnally deserves to be mentioned among the best in this talented 2023 Class in Illinois. Kree is a high-motor athlete who is constantly on the move so that her teammates can get her the ball in the lane. She is a rebounding machine on both ends of the court and shows nice touch around the rim.
2022 Emily Ytsen Emily Ytsen 6'1" | PF Conant | 2022 State IL , 6’1” Forward, Illinois Rockets
Ytsen is a strong Forward who is able to stretch the floor with her ability to knock down shots from beyond the three-point line. Emily is a good athlete who moves well with and without the ball and consistently plays sound defense on opposing post players.
2022 Amanda Behrend-Hansen Amanda Behrend-Hansen 6'2" | PF Fenwick | 2022 State IL , 6’1” Forward, Example Sports
A hidden gem in the rising Senior Class, Hansen is someone who is starting to turn heads and needs to be on more coaches’ radars ASAP. She is a hardworking Forward who does most of her work in the lane, rebounding the ball at a high rate and uses her strength to absorb contact and finish at the rim.
2023 Ava Gugliuzza Ava Gugliuzza 5'7" | SG Lincoln-Way West | 2023 State IL , 5’7” Guard, Illinois Elite
Gugliuzza is a high-level shooter from deep with great range and continues to show a well-rounded game on offense. Ava is a high IQ player who is always looking to score but knows how to play within herself and make good decisions with the basketball.
2022 Aaliyah Smith, 5’6” Guard, Example Sports
Smith is a strong ball-handler who uses a lot of strength to attack the basket and speed to push the ball up the floor. Aaliyah has excellent court vision and a team-first mentality to make whatever play necessary for the team to have success.
2022 Sara Balli, 5’8” Guard, Illinois Elite
A skilled Combo Guard with a lot of tools on the offensive end, Balli can score the ball as well as anyone with her ability to shoot the three and convert at the hoop. Sara is a talented ball-handler who makes good decisions and contributes nicely on the defensive end of the floor.
2023 Brianna Hill Brianna Hill 6'0" | CG Example Academy | 2023 State IL , 5’11” Guard, Example Sports
A top player in the Class of 2023, Hill continues to show why she is one of the most coveted Guards in the state. She is a long athlete who plays under control and can score from anywhere. Brianna is an impactful player on the defensive end as well, using her quickness and long arms to make things difficult for opponents.
