The Travel season has kicked off. We will check in with teams all around the state with an outlook on their season and a breakdown of some of their top players. This week we take a look at one of Miami Suns South 17U Squads – Miami Suns South Team Luberto 17U.
2022 Alexandra Blanco (Doral Academy) 5’5 Guard
Blanco is an excellent 3-point shooter who uses her range to stretch defenses out and space the floor. She is a natural leader who leads both with her actions and her voice. She is very active and has a knack for being around the ball often is a very good on ball defender. She gives her team a ton of energy and does not take plays off!
2022 Dumiya Fenelon (Miami Senior HS) 5’8 Forward
Fenelon is a strong, athletic, forward that has the ability to play the stretch 4 position as well as the 5 and gives the team so much needed size and interior presence. She scores off offensive rebound putbacks, dump passes from guard, and by running the floor. She is a decent finisher around the rim and has an excellent mid-range shot. She needs to work on her conditioning and staying out of foul trouble as her team needs her on the floor as they have very little size.
2022 Isabella Lopez (Florida Christian) 5’4 Guard
Lopez is a role player for Miami Suns South Team Luberto 17U. She can shoot the 3 ball from all spots on the floor and helps space out the team’s offense. As teams scout her, they will not let her catch and shoot from 3 and make her put the ball to the floor. She needs to improve her ball handling to be able to shoot a 1-2 dribble pull up jump shot and get all the way to the rim.
2022 Ashley Ojeada (Doral Academy) 5’4 Wing
Ashely is a Wing player that can also play as an undersized stretch 4 in a 4 out – 1 in offense. She has the ability to knock down the open 3 from the top of the key and the wing. She plays extremely aggressive on the ball as a defender. Like her teammate Isabella Lopez, she needs to improve her ballhandling as teams take away her ability to catch and shoot and make her put it to the floor. She plays hard on both ends of the floor and the energy she brings is infectious to her teammates.
2023 Daniela Leon (Florida Christian) 5’3 Guard
Leon is a small guard who works hard on both ends of the floor and is very coachable. She plays fearlessly, relentlessly attacking the rim both in the half court and in transition. She plays a bit timid as she wants to please her coaches and takes instruction well. Look for her to be more aggressive as she becomes more comfortable with her teams system and her teammates.
2023 Sophia Ojeada (Doral Academy) 5’4 Guard
Sophia is a long, athletic guard who has the ability to play multiple positions. She shots the ball very well and also has the ability to get all the way to the rim. She is a capable point guard but is better playing off the ball and being more in a scoring position. She is effective when playing downhill as a penetrator and is a very good defender. She will be more productive as she becomes more confident and worries less about making mistakes, and more about just playing the game!
2023 Lillie Piedra (St. Brendan HS) 5’4 Guard
Piedra is a high IQ point guard who learns new concepts quickly. She is a good decision maker, sees the floor well, has a good feel for the game and gives up the ball selflessly to open scoreres. She has a strong build and uses her legs/lower body well to shoot the 3 and finish at the rim vs contact.
2023 Alexia Sanchez (Doral Academy) 5’6 Guard
Sanchez is a tough, physical guard and has a long wingspan. She is an extremely active defender who uses her length well and gets her hand on a lot of balls. She plays hard on both ends of the floor and her actively level equates to her constantly being around the ball. She likes to attack the rim from the wing going right. She appears young to the game and is still developing her decision-making skills but her effort and attitude make her an effective player on both ends of the floor.
2024 Emrie Pedraza Emrie Pedraza 5'5" | SF Papillion La Vista | 2024 State FL (Palmer Trinity) 5’5 Guard
Pedraza is a solid 3-point shooter who is also active on the defensive end of the floor. She is a hard worker, who overcomes mistakes by constantly staying active and a desire to get better! She needs to play more games to improve her decision amking and feel for the game but love her activity level and ability to knock down the open 3!
